I once port forwarded my modem once and made a private server with no problem but this time I have a new wifi router. one of my friend says routers are better for port forwarding but one other friend says do like i did last time which is port forwarding my modem. I'm confused which one to port forward? which is better, modem or router? would appericiate a reply and thanks in advance .
I tried pot forwarding my TP link router (the modem is a old but this is new so i gussed this would be better) I i did all correctly and still when I scan it it says port not open. I didnt do any mistakes there, is it like firewall or something? if yes can anybody help?
When I talk about static IP, I mean your local network static IP.
Aka my computer is always 192.168.0.2 for example
My external IP changes every few month, and a dynamic DNS host is used to have address always point to my IP, which is what you are doing with no-ip.org
When you turn off your computer, the next time you turn it on, your computer's IP may be different, so static IP assigns a permanent IP address to your computer (well MAC address)
I understood half of what you said. Well I still don't know whats wrong with what I've done. It seems to be correct and I did put my static IP which doesnt change.
I just port forwarded my modem+router by removing my wifi router and it WORKED but the problem is when I attached back the wifi router its closed again. I cant take out the wifi router as it is necessary. Also the IPV4 Address has also changed. I'm not sure what happened there. SO can anyone tell me how to port forward for 2 router in the same device?
More complex saying, will there be 2 external and internal ip? if yes how to tackle this problem?
Not sure what you mean so I'll blurt out some stuff, and slightly reiterate what I said
Use your modem+router as a MODEM
Use your wireless router as the ROUTER
In your ROUTER configuration page, set your computer's MAC Address to a static IP address. (If you set your static IP address different to your currently DHCP assigned IP, you will need to reconnect your computer to the network (Unplug and plug in cable/Disconnect from wifi and reconnect)
In your ROUTER configuration page, port forward port 25565 (or else wise) to your static IP address.
Ensure your MODEM is attached to the WAN port of your ROUTER
On your MODEM, turn on DMZ mode and set the IP address to your ROUTER's IP address
"The IPV4 address has also changed" -> You didn't set up a static IP address correctly
"More complex saying, will there be 2 external and internal ip?" -> You get ONE external IP address
I googled about 2 router and its pretty confusing. When I try to port forward my ROUTER, the link is not complete because the router in my MODEM is blocking it cause both the modem router and wifi router has different WAN and LAN also different ips (external and internal). So how do I make a correct port forwarding link that comes from the internet through my modem+router then through my wifi router and reaches my computer?
You should get a real modem, a real modem and a real router is usually much better than a modem+router combo
Ofherwise if you can't disabled he routing feature on the modem, then you should setup your wireless router as an access point only, so that the main modem handles the routing.
For all the people who replied thanks a lot. I researched a lot and found 2 solutions, I'll tell both in case if anybody if reading this and want to port forard in 2 routers.
First port forward your first router to your second by using your second router's ip and then port forward your second router normally. I did this method and was confused but I have another method.
Method 2: I looked the ip on my second router from the status page in WAN section. then I went to first routers page and searched for DMZ and typed in my 2nd routers WAN and port forwarded the 2nd router normally and it WORKED!
If your external IP does not work, you will not be able to join from places other than the network that the router(s) is/are hosting. See, by default the router blocks incoming connections from an unknown (by the router) location. Port forwarding changes that and creates an exception so that the IP of the MC server (or other type of server/access point) will be able to be accessed from another source. But if it is not port forwarded, your internal IP will work because your router recognizes that that computer is connected to its own network. How to fix: Go to BOTH routers' settings pages and port forward the SAME IP of the MC server. What is the IP? OK, take the computer that is hosting the server's INTERNAL IP and port forward it. Be sure to add the port (by default 25565) to the exception. It may ask what type of connection it is, if it does, set it to both. Remember, do this on BOTH routers, then connect via the EXTERNAL IP, and if it works, it is port forwarded and will be able to be accessed from anywhere on the globe with your external IP, even if it changes once on a while. (if they use the changed IP) Hope this helps. Also hope I can find a better profile picture. lol
Personally, if you want this for a small server for friends, use Aternos, it is free. But make sure the server is full, or else after 10 minutes it will be shut down, but you CAN edit the max amount. Or for a more premium server (not much better but does not need a queue) use GG Servers.
Thanks a lot guys, all the information helped me alot and also the problem is solved. I just played in the server with my friend so I guess server is up and running.
And thanks for suggesting that Eveantig, I'll look it up. I'm getting pretty good lags running a server and minecraft with 4 players in the same computer which has pnly 2 gb ram and even worse processing system .

You don't port forward your modem. You port forward your router. Most likely you had a router&modem combo before. Like in 1 machine.

Oh yea, thats right, i got a new router which has a wifi now so that makes 2 routers now :3 so what shall I do? should I port forward both routers?

You have to have the MC Server running while you run the test

Most modems are infact modem routers, and these days they are wireless modem routers.
But we'll stick to the term 'modem'
The router does all the routing. The modem does the packet switching or whatnot.
So configure the ROUTER
Like you've already done
You might like to set yourself a static IP, so the DHCP server won't give you a different IP when you reconnect.
I'm testing it online not by MC server. Although ill give it a try.
Thanks everyone for helping me
I already got the static IP under control by no-ip. Well in an online port checking website http://www.ipfingerprints.com/faq.php#q33
I check and this is what I got. Any ideas in whats going on?
P.S: I tried with my server too but it says 'can't reach server'

Thanks a lot y'all

Oops guess I didnt click the spoilers but got another problem. The port are open but I cant get into the server, even I cant get it. what to do
I checked the ports which are open but still can't reach server.
UPDATE: Sorry guys my bad I used the external ip to join lol sorry im a new to these.
"I used the external ip to join lol sorry im a new to these."
But the point of port forwarding is to be able to join with the external IP..?
