Background: I've had a vanilla server for a few years now that I play on with my friends. All there is to it is the Minecraft server .exe file downloaded from Minecraft's site, put into a folder and ran. Any friends that want to connect then join a Hamachi network I've set up. Now in all the years I've had it up, I've never really had any trouble with it (except for one time when my firewall was blocking it, but that was resolved).
Problem: So none of us have really played it in a long time, but me and a friend wanted to go on and mess around with the 1.8 update. However, when I downloaded the new server version from the site and replaced the old .exe file, and then tried to connect, it won't let me! (none of my friends can join either). It just gives that Connection:Refused error.
What I've tried:
After trying various things with my normal server, I just downloaded another copy of the 1.8 server .exe file and put it in an empty file and ran it. The server runs all fine, but it still gives me the same error when I try to connect.
I have disabled my firewalls to everything and tried connecting, but no luck.
I tried direct connecting using "localhost", but nothing.
I tried direct connecting using the alternate localhost method, where you type in the ip "170.something.0.0", same results.
I've tried shutting down and restarting the server, no change.
I'm out of ideas and don't know what to do. Any help at all would be appreciated. Thanks for taking time to read this!
P.S. I may not be able to post here tomorrow so check back Monday if you don't see any responses from me.
