I recently restarted my old server and started getting everything organised. I noticed most of the servers I played on had fancy coloured MOTDs.
These are just a few:
I already knew how to do it manually by copy and pasting the colour codes and place them in my MOTD.
§0 = Black
§1 = Dark Blue
§2 = Dark Green
§3 = Dark Cyan
§4 = Dark Red
§5 = Purple
§6 = Orange
§7 = Light Grey
§8 = Dark Grey
§9 = Purple-Blue
§a = Light Green
§b = Light Cyan
§c = Light Red
§d = Pink
§e = Yellow
§f = White
This is my MOTD (and is seen at the top of the list in the picture above)
motd=§4Cubecrafted §6in §2Survival
But, I know some people may not know how to do that, or understand the colour codes. This is why I made a simple HTML and PHP site that does all the hard work for you.
You need to run this in a web server, or use XAMPP on your local machine for it to work, because it uses php to process.
I may learn to handle this using a different method in the future. But this is working for now. I may also get some webhosting for this, so you can just visit the site instead of downloading it.
I have included 4 different versions, each varying how many colour combinations there is. Shown below is 3 colour combinations. Where it says "First Word" it can be as many words as you like, it just means what ever text is in that box will be the colour specified.
Clicking submit will simply generate the MOTD for you, simple copy and paste into server.properties.
Simple put in your text and choose your colour that you want. It isn't very pretty, but it does the job. I didn't include every colour, I just chose the ones that look the best (IMHO) the other ones just hurt my eyes.
Feel free to download and edit to your liking. I made it for everyone. I tried to use Github, but I have no idea how to use it. I just use dropbox.
For those who like to look at the HTML, please don't laugh at me, I know my html is messy haha. The bits I commented out was my trial and error. I forgot to completely remove them, and I can't be bothered re uploading to dropbox.
Need any help with it or found a bug, don't hesitate to drop a reply or PM me.
I like it very much Hunter! Thanks for making it! I also double checked the links, you're a go...
Thanks for your kind words AnUnknownMiner Means a lot to me, as I spent a good 2 hours or more making this haha. I am still learning php, and I like to try to challenge myself.
If I could make a suggestion it would be helpful if it could output the number code (eg: §a) as well. Some plugins can use those codes directly.
Also if your looking for an easier way to update the MOTD I recently made a Bukkit Plugin that does exactly that. It allows for a multi-line in-game MOTD and single-line server MOTD but can be colored. It is even possible to add, update and remove the MOTD from ingame (or server console) while the server is running, no restart required.

Nice work on your plugin I'll definitely check it out
This was sort of directed towards vanilla servers and for people who don't know how to make the coloured MOTDs.
I like the idea of outputting §a colour codes. I'll add that as a feature in the next version I do agree a lot of plugins also use those colour codes and that would be really helpful.
You need to run it within a web server, because it uses php. I personally use XAMPP, it's simple, does the job and very useful! http://www.apachefri...g/en/xampp.html I generated it for you on my end.
but i dont know how or what a webserver is (srry im kinda stupid)
A webserver allows files to run in order to produce the website that you see in your browser, similar to how you need an operating system like Windows to run an executable file. Without a web server, a website is nothing but useless files.
XAMPP has Apache, MySQL, PHP, and Perl all in one package, which is all you need in order to execute the PHP files. PHP files allow scripts to run on webpages. You can download XAMPP here.

Read the thread before asking redundant questions.
