I never liked Spout, the whole hassle of having another client just doesn't fit. Saying they are better is quite immature, and also do they know the statistics of the amount of Bukkit servers compared to Spout? Lol.
the problem is, you have to still use custom client in order to experience what spout can achieve. Thats a big point right there.
and second, i ever supported spout, donated to their project, but after seeing their post at bukkit forums that is basically saying "they are better than bukkit", i dropped my support.
The first post is not by the group, only an individual developer's opinion, the second post is telling what our plans are and the future of Minecraft. It explains the path ahead and what will be happening to Bukkit, no candy coating the truth of what is going to happen to Bukkit. If you take that for a hate message, you are taking it the wrong way. Without Bukkit, we wouldn't be here today.

We never said we are better. Stop making things up. If anything, the Bukkit developers think they are above us and they've always tried to make that clear to users. They've hated toward us at MineCon and through various other means of communication. They've always seen us as competition, and they just can't seem to handle that. We have no desire to compete and we have never considered it as such.
Funny though to see the four main Bukkit developers, now Mojang employees, essentially implementing the exact same features that we offer to the official Minecraft client now that they are in control of it. Hard core Bukkit fans hated when we did things, but now they praise the new Mojang developers for adding the same features.
CraftBukkit servers make up for most of the Minecraft servers currently running, yes we know the stats. We have nearly 350,000 servers that use SpoutPlugin on them. In case you do not know, SpoutPlugin USES CraftBukkit. Saying a server is a Spout server is inaccurate, unless they are running our new standalone platform. Get your facts and information right.
If you want exact stats, we've had: 16,162,453 Spoutcraft logins
708,391 Spoutcraft installs
343,115 SpoutPlugin installs
Of course it's not nearly as much as Bukkit or the regular Minecraft client. They're been around for much longer and have an established userbase.
We are providing a service to users that expands what Bukkit can do. We do not get paid for this, we do not expect anything from you. We do it as we enjoy Minecraft ourselves and want to make user experiences more enjoyable and easier than hacking up your Minecraft jar with a bunch of mods. With Bukkit alone, you cannot do things things that you can do with SpoutPlugin, Spoutcraft, etc.
The Spout information in the OP has nothing to do with any of those projects, it's talking about our game engine, Spout, not the old expansions of Bukkit and Minecraft.
Modding API has been promised long long time ago. For a few months its like an "abandoned idea"
I am scared that right now they write the API "just to make there is an API" if you know what i mean.
As for bukkit, i hope that bukkit will still live for maybe 6 months from now, so for most servers they will be able to move smoothly.
The problem is that the 1.3 update is going to be killer for CraftBukkit. They've made so many changes that they don't really want to update it. We are fearing the same for Spoutcraft and SpoutPlugin, as it's going to require a lot of changes to update Spoutcraft for all the new changes. Likely with the new version, it will introduce more bugs as well. That's what we dislike about having to mod Minecraft class files, and that is why we are now developing our own game engine and client/server platform. We are no longer limited by the current platforms and do not have to rely on extending and replacing parts of them. No more having to spend a month trying to work bugs out with each new version of Minecraft.

Chances are that bukkit would say the same kind of "competition" is going on. But really you guys are probably both fighting in the same way. You just won't admit it to the public.

We really aren't.
The only reason we started out own platform was to get around the limitations in what was currently available. Bukkit has never liked us expanding on their products the way that we have. EvilSeph has made that clear time and time again. SpoutPlugin was made to expand on it, but they saw that as us trying to better them, when all we were trying to do is offer what they were not.
Even still, this thread has nothing to do about any of those old projects. This is about the new Spout platform, which has nothing to do with Bukkit or Minecraft even. As I said, the Vanilla plugin by the VanillaDev team is the only part of that which relates to Minecraft.

I'm totally aware why you started the project. Its just that at this point that you are this big. It would be hard to believe you didnt fight with bukkit in any way. Just saying.

We really haven't, believe it or not. What Afforess says outside of the news announcements is his own personal feelings, not those of the entire group and should not be taken as such. The only time we've posted anything regarding Bukkit was that one news article, and it was only stating what we saw was going to happen to Bukkit based on the facts and points made by the Bukkit staff. We were in no way hating on the team or project in general, simply stating that it is going to die off eventually as there is no need for it beyond the official Mojang API. The Bukkit team isn't going to want to maintain an inferior project, when they've developed something better and more integrated that can work on both the client and server.
We have no desire to butt heads with them, but EvilSeph, Dinnerbone, and fans have always seemed to want to make it so.

I have never seen the bukkit team do that. Unless they are doing it in private.

Their staff channel and when asked about Spout on occasion. Some of the things they've said at MineCon when asked about our projects were not that flattering either, geared more toward a "they're doing it wrong" attitude. Most of what I've heard from them though, has shown that they haven't really followed most of what we are doing or actually know how we are doing things.
Ok so here's my #1 thoughts. Keep in mind the fooling that I'm new to this.
1. This could dramatically change the players on Minecraft and server owners. Owners will probably be furious that after configuring servers perfectly, they'll have to give it all up. I personally just finished my server, forwarded ports and recruited a good amount of players and now I have to say goodbye to it all for the new update.
2. What happens to all those plugin developers that put hours of work into bukkit. I personally just started recently creating plugins for my server. This isn't fair to the players. We should atleast be able to vote for what we want, Mod API or Bukkit.
I don't see why you would be against what those people said about bukkit in the first place, regardless of whether or not they represent the spout team. If Spout can make a better platform, why shouldn't it "compete" (even though that wouldn't make sense since Spoutplugin is a branch of bukkit and Spout server is offering an entirely different product)? Is Bukkit so holy that all challengers are demons to you?
Adikista is not yet fully developed and open to the public. If you're highly interested and want to help, feel free to contact me. Otherwise, you are free to log in, but you probably won't have much to do yet.

Who agrees with me?
The problem is that Bukkit cannot do anything client-side, that's why SpoutPlugin, originally BukkitContrib, was created till fill the gap. So you could stay with it, but you'd be limiting yourself. That's why they are creating the new API.
There are 2 members of the Bukkit team that aren't hired for Mojang. This is because they only joined the Bukkit team after they were hired. They are also the bleeding team.
Anyone who thinks Spout will be more limited than Bukkit is retarded. Spout is designed to be limitless, and having read through it's code and made a couple of small contributions myself I can see that they are succeeding.
This is not a Spout advert. I believe Spout is the best as:
1) It will be the least limited.
2) It's not dying (*Cough* Bukkit *Cough*).
Yes, it's pretty much pointless to start a server now, because unless Mojang don't stick to their deadlines and release the API late, it will only be a few days before it comes out (1.3 is scheduled to come out between 21st and 29th June).
Any anyone who prefers Bukkit to Spout is IMO stupid because Spout has a plugin (BukkitBridge) that allows Bukkit plugins to run on the Spout server anyway. I have made a few contributions to that as well, although honestly it still needs a LOT doing.
By the way:
I am in no way affiliated with the fine people at the Spout team. They are the wizards behind the Spout magic (pun intended *Cough* Afforess *Cough*). I have a Spout forums account and me have made some Pull Requests to Vanilla / BukkitBridge is all I can attest to.
And Bukkit still *could* be maintained, because it's open source, but not by the current developers.
As to developers who have put time into it. BukkitBridge. May I add that the Minecraft API will have no BukkitBridge, the Spout team have been kind enough to develop it for admins, and they should be grateful for that.

Bukkit has two active developers. The modding API is nearly finished.
Do you even know what an API is? Having an API so there is an API is the point of an API. An API allows programmers to hook into Minecraft (or whatever it is the API for), so they can utilise it without modifying any files inside Minecraft or whatever it is for. It will mean 0 mod conflicts (unless overriding occurs).
Anyone who previously said it would be compatible with previous Bukkit plugins is retarded. For old Bukkit plugins to work they would have to have the exact same Class names, package names and method names as Bukkit, or create a bridge. Neither of which is going to happen.
Spout won't have a huge chance. To get all the cool features (new blocks, entities, etc) you have to install the client mod. More importantly most server admins worry about getting lots of players onto the server. By using Spout they loose a huge audience- in the days, weeks or even months it could take for Spout to push an update Mojang API servers will be running at full steam.
How secure is Spout exactly? Imagine the risks players could be faced, servers running mods with bad intentions.
I'm also hopeful the Mojang API is going to be stable- that way plugin devs won't have to update many things so often.
Also Pandaz, please don't insult people who choose to run different pieces of software. We have freedom of choice. And many of us have yet to see something Spout offers us (just because it can do something doesn't mean we need that functionality).
Of course Bukkit's team members aren't going to be over the moon with Spout. It is human nature. Please don't act like your all above competition and are perfect. It actually makes you look like ass holes. If you were in their position (having made Spout successful with a new type of server/client coming to swallow you) you would most likely act the same.
A lot of the mods made for Spout just add something boring, and ID intensive. I'm much more keen for things like IC2 and BC2 - these are proper mods that turn heads.

Mods like Bc / Ic2 are possible, very easily. I never insilted people who don't use Spout. I also believe Spout has limitless IDs. Spout is also more performance orientated. Unlike regular Mc or Bukkit, Spout has multicore suplort, and would efficiently use 128 cores if you had them.
You worry about installing the Spout client, but it's a launcher that provides access to all games Spout has to offer. It also allows unlimited mods with no conflicts due to no having to mod base files. The other great thing.is that

1. The release date of 1.3 is unknown
2. The modding api will be at 1.4 not 1.3
Can you give me the link to the info you got ?
Also, if you think that is stupid if people choose bukkit over spout, then you must be on the "Spout Side".
The reason people choose bukkit over spout is :
1. No custom client needed
2. Plugins. Mostly large servers with tons of plugins that only compatible with bukkit.
I don't see nothing wrong when people won't download custom client. It is very normal. Can't call them "Lazy" for that.
And about the "BukkitBridge" i think you are overboasting it. It is not worth to be boasted yet until we really see the proofs of bukkit plugins running on that bridge.
Im not a big fan of Spout honestly. I have always used bukkit and it will take some time getting used to the new 1.3 API.
I agree with you Bukkit is a standard for all servers, don't even think about vanilla (not even with friends) it's terrible. The problem with Spout is you have to download a client, ughh, most people won't even bother. But with Tekkit it's a bit like Spout but it has a tonne more blocks, so I think either Bukkit or Tekkit is good.
Spout is a great plugin with great developers. Most server owners are afraid of getting Spout, because you could lose lazy-ass players which won't install a launcher for great plugins.
Spout WILL have a huge chance. It will add so many features which minecraft&bukkit doesn't add. And keep in mind some of the developers are teenagers .
You look like an asshole. Do you actually realise how hard is to make a server client without mohjang's support? Do you realise how much Spout team developers worked to offer you those awesome features?
They didn't work so ass people like you will be too lazy to install a LAUNCHER, which takes 1 minute to have all the Spout plugins.
Spout is made by great people, who want to improve the features of minecraft, by taking their time. Nobody PAYS them anything, but they somehow still design a server client better than mohjang.
I am talking about the Spout Server, not the Spout Bukkit Plugin, but most of that criteria still fits.
1. The release date of 1.3 is unknown
2. The modding api will be at 1.4 not 1.3

When the Bukkit team was hired. It was announced by Mojang it would be done in 1.3. If they don't hit the deadline, fair enough, but that's official information.
I am on the 'Spout Side' because Spout is better. It's loads easier to make plugins for as well.
Also, even if the API isn't released in 1.3, it will take AGES to update CraftBukkit because of the quantity of change in Minecraft 1.3. CraftBukkit is also illegal in the first place in case you didn't know.
And how do you need proof of BukkitBridge's capabilities? It implements the Bukkit API, in the same way that CraftBukkit does, but redirects the the appropriate Spout methods, and the Spout methods HAVE been tested, so what's there to be tested?
I agree with you Bukkit is a standard for all servers, don't even think about vanilla (not even with friends) it's terrible. But with Tekkit it's a bit like Spout but it has a tonne more blocks, so I think either Bukkit or Tekkit is good.
Did you even read the first post? How can Tekkit have more blocks than Spout if Spout has potentially unlimited blocks? Also, Tekkit takes about 3 months to update every Minecraft update. And that's not exaggerated. Spout also has potential for ANY Java Voxel game, not just Minecraft. Mods are Plugins as well, so no conflicts if you want to install something else, unlike in Tekkit.
And in 1.3 or later if Mojang are late, the 'Vanilla' server will be a better version of Bukkit, and Bukkit will be dead.
And downloading the Spout client gives you access to unlimited no-conflict plugins and the functionality of every game made for Spout (currently Minecraft, there are also 2 WIPs I've seen).

Spout has a bridge BTW.
The other great thing.is that
where did you get these informations ?
at this page http://www.minecraft...coming_features it says 2 things :
I am talking about the Spout Server, not the Spout Bukkit Plugin, but most of that criteria still fits.
http://www.teamavoli...-been-released/
