check that out, shows the ping and stuff and its all over the place and sometimes the lag gets so bad that it can't find the server and says its offline and our uptime goes down, I'm really clueless why its lagging.
The lag is plugin lag i think but i got no clue which one.
i run a server and esentals geoip makes log in time much slower for me (like 3 seconds) and is takes up like 10 to 20 mb of ram. so when some one logs in lag spikes. I still have it becuse it is nice to know where the people come from but it can lag my 768 MB minecraft host (fragnet.net btw) hope that helps

I don't think that would be lagging it out as we have 4gb of ram
Your CPU
Your RAM (including the type of ram, not just amount)
Your OS
Your startup
amount of plugins utilizing SQL instead of flatfile
...?
Intel Xeon E5620 @ 2.40Ghz (2 Physical CPUs)

windows and as this is a hosted server through cloudecube.com.au i doubt it would be there problem as I've tried other servers and there lag free. There is only 1 plugin using mysql and that is log block. Ive started a new map and have started fresh on all plugins and yet still getting lag spikes
So I am still looking for your startup (that is, the startup of your server, and the batch file you use for it). Also, I would recommend a linux OS over a windows OS, especially if you're going to be using dedicated hosting.

This is something i have no say over as its a mine craft hosting.

Java and thus minecraft run perfectly well on Linux, Linux is considerably more lightweight and more stable than windows anyway.
Temporally shutdown your current server and start up a completely fresh folder and put the latest bukkit in that. Without adding plugins join the server and see if its lagging. If it is the you have a problem with your VPS, if it doesnt lag then you need to do trial and error with your plugins and add them back one by one.

ya for like 3 months i hosted a minecraft server an a Linux box in my house the only problem was that i had to slow of a internet connection so i had to start a paid plan. a great solution would be a Linux vps with 4 GB of ram and 100mbps symmetrical connection. (that is a connection that has the same bandwidth for uploading and downloading needed for servers of all sorts) The only draw back to this is that in most Linux distros (a distro is a free version of Linux eg Ubuntu Debian centos) is that java wont allow them to put it in there app repository so you are forced to compile from source or search a round on the net for a good tutorial with its on repository to add to your repository on your system ant then just sudo apt-get install.
I run more plugins I have 51 plugins on a 5 GB's of RAM server
Yeah my mate has alot running on he's 5gb server with no lag, I'm really clueless to why it is lagging, I've done a full new map and reinstalled all plugins and deleted all old data so its practically a whole refresh yet it keeps getting lag spikes
Plugins are
obuShutTheHellUp, GroupManager, WorldEdit, Buycraft, LogBlockQuestioner, Vault, WorldGuard, BorderGuard, MineBackup, TreasureHunt, Permissions, mcMMO, MobArena, MobDisguise, WeatherMan, MoneyDrop, Essentials, EssentialsSpawn, EssentialsGeoIP, VanishNoPacket, LogBlock, LWC, ChestShop, EssentialsChat, XrayInformer
I am running 4gb ram and is hosted in a datacenter through cloudecube.com.au
I know it isn't the host as i have joined other servers with the same host and no lag, I'm really stumped guys. please help
Regards
Ben
What specs are you running the server on?
4gb is plenty for the amount of plugins i run, 25 plugins isn't alot for dedicated 4gb and my mate runs over 50 without lag and 4gb.
Its 50 slots with 4gb ram and dedicated through datacenter
What kind of ping do you get? Is it the map or your client that is lagging?

That's probably where your issue is.
I don't know what the issue is :/
