You can add your server to minecraft server list sites. I did it and i got many people, bit mine has been down a longe time so it have rank 0. So you need to have your server on almost 24/7 for mcserver list to work... Another thing you can try is to add your server "stats" in your signature like me. And just try to post where you can ( but post helping posts :)... I don't know if you will get "real" players that want to play on your server more then just that one time, but you just need to try ;). ( if you have a good server will they probably want to play more on your server)
how do we advertise our custom plugins? we have 4 coded by me and nobody believes until they get on the server >.>
To promote your custom plugins, creating server videos about gameplay, trailers, guides, reviews, or in this case, showing off your plugins, can not only prove to people that your server can be fun to play on, but can serve many other purposes.
Creating a Video Can (Pros):
- Advertise your server
- Show general gameplay mechanics (Plugins, Events, Etc)
- Tell new players to watch a "Starter Video" so you have less spam in the chat
- If your server has an iconomy system, show players a few good ways to earn money in a guide, but leave the best ways for the players themselves to find out.
- Having a trailer will definetly get people pumped up to try out the server...(If done correctly)
- Having players post honest reviews via Youtube or other video sharing site will definetly be a plus for advertising.
(Cons):
- Have a bad trailer and will repell new players
- Have a not so good review can also be bad
- If your server is boring and has nothing to show or unique, ignore everything here
- Can take lots of time and effort, make sure you have the drive to finish it all
- If you arn't straight to the point, and your videos start to drag, you can get negetive feedback. People want to watch short, less then 6 minute videos, not 15 minute videos which at 5% gameplay, 90% bad jokes/puns, and 5% raging on fellow players
Conclusion: Worth it and great if done properly. Bad if not.
For advertising, I would suggest getting spoutplugin and signing up on the Spout Forums and their server list. Plus, you should get spoutplugin and use Spoutcraft anyway :).

Spout is awesome, but I wish it had support for a few more mods out there. I personally use all three clients though.. xD
If I post it on PMC tons of people join, but all of them are flakes.
Are there any other ways I can advertise?
