I run a small server and I have 15 players playing. The server has been running since version 1.3. The world being generated when we explore it, most central part of the map lack features that have been added afterward (like pumpkin an lapiz lazuli). However, with version 1.8 coming and all the great new features, I proposed to renew the map. But half of the players are pissed off by this idea because they'll lose their stuff.
I know that Worldedit (Bukkit plugin) has a command to regenerate a part of the world using the hash and that is should (normally) regenerate the exact same thing that it was at the beginning. However, the map generator being updated for new features, would regenerating parts of the maps add the new stuff included in 1.8?
I know the Buxville server has an area on the outskirts called "The Purge" where chuncks are constantly renewed to find new ores/pumpkins/clay and such. So it should work.
forget them, do what you want to do its your server not there's
Then half of my player base will go play on another server or start their own. I care about my players fun, because having a community is my fun.
I would expand the map (Which is what I'm doing for my own server come 1.8) or add another world with 1.8 chunks.
I've already added some worlds for fun, but we mostly play on the main world. The main world is currently peaceful, but will switch on mobs with 1.8 and use Towny to get the central area peaceful. Expanding the map could be possible, but it would mean all new stuff would be nearly 20-30 minutes of straight walk from the spawn points / housing.
I've forgotten something too in my previous post. The 1.8 update is supposed to enable heights up to 512, which I obviously want to enable ( having mountains and deep ravines ). This kind of implicate the regenerating the map with a different height will yield a different result, if its ever possible to do so.

What would you do?
