IE8 has been known to have issues with the webui, more specifically with the jquery that drives the webui. I have not attempted to fix it mostly because less than 10% of MineOS visitors use IE and even less use it to access the webui.
As such, I would advise to use firefox for the webui (chrome more, if you use it, but ff is known to work just fine). So basically, IE is accumulating javascript errors (and not reporting them) where the same code is known-working code on opera/chrome/safari/ff/ie9.
So let me know what you mean by 'nothing' happens after you enter your username and password in firefox. Do you get no page at all? Does giving it a good control-f5 give it the necessary kick?
You can also start the server from SSH, but the web-ui should work, so the next thing to try is maybe in IE you can try 'update mineos' from the 'overview' page--then abandon ie8 for another browser from then on. Let meknow
Well I'm glad that you don't use IE bc I hate it. So, with FF I typed in //my-ip and hit enter. Took me to the page where it says 127.0.0.1 : /....Here It has admin/ pigmap/ snapshots/... The fist time I clicked on admin/ and I got the normal popup for username and password. I entered in my web username and password and hit enter. After that the only thing that happens is the tab/page shows a spinning circle on the tab and the progress-bar on the bottom right of the page. The progress bar stays empty as in it doesn't progress at all. I have tried clearing ALL history and passwords and everything else. When I do this it clears all the passwords for my email and this MC site here and I have to relog into them. But, for the web ui located at //my-ip when I click on admin/ it never asks me for a password or username again. The first time I did it I told it to NOT remember the password. Clearing passwords and history should have removed it even if it did remember it. So, this is my issue. Ill try DL Chrome i guess and try that out.
Chrome worked for me. Allowed me to start the server.
Sorry for asking for all this help. I just keep running into problems.
So my server is supposedly up and running. It says so on the status page. I try to join the server and all I get is that it is taking to long and doesn't connect.

I am using FileZila. I tried to search using the search tool in FileZila for the minecraft_server.jar file and couldn't find it. Where is this file normally stored on MineOS CRUX? I looked in all of the directories under /home/mc and couldn't find it.
AFTER waiting 20 min I was finally able to get into the server.I tried getting in off and on for about 5-10 of the 20 min then tried one more time and now I can get it. Any reason why this might have taken so long? I'm running a quad core cpu OCed at 4.5ghz.

Most important paths are listed in the 'overview' page of the webui, but to save you some time, all the server jars/minecraft scripts are located at: /usr/games/minecraft
As a sidenote, I do not recommend replacing the existing jars with your own--rather, simply add your ADDITIONAL jars to that above directory with a unique name: the web-ui will automatically populate it in the dropdown list and you can select it.
Using this method will allow you to have any number of server jars which can be toggled at will.

To satisfy my love of slimming down and specializing Linux, I have created MineOS2, based on CRUX Linux. MineOS2 (or MineOS CRUX), follows in the spirit of the original in aiming for lightweight, highly customizable, greatly automated Minecraft hosting.
MineOS CRUX differs from the original MineOS/+ in numerous ways, all of which I find to be a hefty improvement.
- based on CRUX Linux (an advanced, build-it-from-the-ground-up distro), it weighs in at a tiny ~25MB ram footprint with a webserver and mysql running. It can be further reduced if you opt not to use mysql.
- CRUX linux is a more sturdy distro than my previous microcore, more comparable to Ubuntu Server (and smaller than). It contains a build environment, every standard linux utility you'd expect for a server, and the capacity to manage the kernel if you're ambitious.
- comes with an improved administrative user interface, which includes the capacity to start/stop/backup/archive your server(s) all idiot proof, and constantly being improved.
- has extended support--covering all i686 machines, wireless included, x64/x86, a modern 3.0 kernel and Oracle JRE7
- as educational as it is automated
Keep in mind that this distribution is appropriate for all applications, virtualized or as the sole-operating system of physical hardware.
There's a lot of work ahead to make it even more simple to embrace Linux, Ramdisks, and MineOS, and I hope to hear all your feedback!
Just wondering, could this install on a computer that is currently running Windows 98. (It has more then the 25mb of ram), If it can't it's fine, I'll just start building my server computer
It seems like the player counter always says at least 1 person is on even when it's empty.
This is a known issue because bukkit needlessly adds 0]m to the end of every log line (to what end I am unsure). I'll get around to releasing a correction to accommodate this ...irregularity.

If I understand your question correctly, you're asking if a computer currently running Win98 can run MineOS...well the restriction is your processor MUST BE AT LEAST Pentium Pro. Since it's highly likely any processor you'll want to drive Minecraft with is at least a Pentium Pro, then the answer is yes.
The next concern, however, is whether you think you'll be happy with an ancient processor driving your server. You'll probably want to get something stronger and more recent to pull this off.
Could I suggest adding a VirtualBox walkthrough for those out there that have not used it before?
You could prob just take the vid from MineOS or MineOS+ and use the first part of it for the VirtualBox walkthrough.
I say this bc many people out there have never used VMs of any sort before.
Hey, Love the idea of MineOS Crux. Wanted to give it a shot for a while
I am trying to install MineOS Crux on a bit of an older laptop that is currently running Ubuntu Server.
I DL'd the image file, burnt with ImgBurn, popped it in, checked the boot order to ensure CDROM was the first boot option, and rebooted the server. Ubuntu fired up off the HDD.
Popped the CD into my main machine to ensure I didn't bring home the blank CD, and CRUX files are on the CD.
Forced the cdrom boot in BIOS, Popped in another bootable CD, rebooted and the CD spun up and booted from CD fine.
Do I have a bad burn maybe, or is there something else I need to change first? Is the MineOS CRUX iso bootable?

Yes it is bootable. Maybe a bad burn or maybe you got a couple configs mixed up in the iso bootable burn prosses. I use free PowerISO and it doesn't ask for ISO options or Bootable Options. It just burns them with no real pre-required questions almost like the nice semi-old-school CDBurnerXP. Also In case you were unaware ISOs have to be burned with a boot enabled option that tags the cd/dvd with a boot tag that the comp then understands how to boot from the cd/dvd.
All you do with PowerISO is click the burn button then it gives you a popup asking you to browse to the iso file and select it. Then you change to Burn Speed if you want to and then click the Burn button on the bottom of the popup and your good to go.
****EDIT****
Also, it could be that for some reason your laptop dvd drive doesn't read the type of dvd you are using. I had this happen to me a few times in the past with different laptops.

Must have been a bad burn, just burned it again, and it is working good.
Scratch that, having an issue with the install.... time to research
Well if your still having issues just ask here there are people willing to help.
Was having a problem with partitions, but got that sorted out, MineOS CRUX is installed and running, I can log into the web interface perfectly fine...
Now having issues getting the server to come up. Having a PORT BIND problem that I can't see to get nailed down.
No-IP is installed and running on the CRUX install, verified it is updating the port correctly
Port Forwarded 25565 for TCP/UDP on my router
Just a standard server will not come up, unclean to down, regardless of any setting changes in the server config.
BAH, It is late, I need sleep, will take another crack @ this in the morning after some rest

9 times out of 10 its because of filling in the IP address in the server.properties, which is needed in the minority of cases (cases in which you are not behind a router).
The other case is when there actually is other servers running, which you can kill from the 'overview' page: kill all servers

Have tried both a vanilla MC server and a bukkit server both with and without the server ip field filled in.
