This was a PER My Roomies request since he does not like forums I had asked this to help him do the below, I Had failed to mention this and it has come back to hunt me
The final answar on this thread, is "PAST TENSE" I had solved it a while back back when My roomie was testing his server on my pc which is now moved to another pc since it will no longer function on mine for some odd reason.
as usual I'll get straight to the point, I'm not a noob at this stuff and this is just freaken confusing, I've spent 2 days trying to figure this out and I have a history of running servers, most servers have ether a standalone program with all the edits inside, or documents or some short of .ini /txt/document file you can edit, While minecraft has a few most of its done in ways that I'm not use to..
first things first
1: I am trying to host "My Own" Lan/Multi pLayer server
I have the Server files
but everytime I click on "start server.bat"
'java' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.
Don't bother pointing me to guides because I hate to be the bearer of bad news but most of those guides are more confusing and have you take one to many steps extra, Like download this or download this special program, I know how to manully forward ports etc, I have managed networks, both home and business... so I do not need some special tool to assist me...
secondly, the Guides seem to be outdated, The server files they tell you to download are "Alpha" we are in beta.
So Can I get someone who knows how to set this up, and walk me though please?
No, I didn't fail to read your post. But you obviously failed to read mine: you have a problem with Java, not Minecraft.
Funny, its not java, which makes it a Minecraft issue not Java, since Minecraft is using Java.. the way its using it
I have java properly installed, I even reinstalled it to ensure, The machine is working perfectly java is working perfectly, before assuming that is the problem try to be more helpful or ask for Details.. instead of directly assuming everyone who asks questions are computer Newbies..
I'm a Software IT By trade, I'm 100% Positive its not Java, because java is working for "Everything else Fine"
It was installed in the "Default Locations" Going to java.com to download it says I have the most "updated and latest version" Reinstalling it, Choosing "Default locations" same Issues,
In order for me to make it work I had to have my roomie copy his entire server set up, send it to me, Over write the old and minor tweaks, now its working,
So here are some new questions
I followed the Guides for how to install Mods, (Once again I'm not New to this been doing this sort of thing for years" Drag the files (Mod files) into the winzip into the "Minecraft.jar folder' Like it says, Load Minecraft and Enjoy it says
Sadly its not as simple as the guides make it out to be.. When I do that, I see no differences, see nothing of the mods I choose..
before assuming that is the problem try to be more helpful or ask for Details.. instead of directly assuming everyone who asks questions are computer Newbies..
And before responding like I'm some stupid smart-ass who thinks you're a "newbie", try doing a little research. That error comes up when you try to run a program that's not installed (Java, in this case). There's nothing else to assume other than a problem with your Java install.
If I was asking for help I wouldn't respond like I had some sort of attitude problem...
I do not have a attitude problem, I Came here kindly asking for help only to be pointed to Google telling me my problem "IS" Java.. when its not..
Before I even signed up, I did 2 days worth of research then I came here asking for help, In the Support areas etc only to be told to go away basically,
That is why I got snappy.
I have read a Good chunk of the Responses people give people on this forums for help, Its pretty much "Go elsewhere" if you want help or people being Very rude in remarks, Foobar in my help has been more then Helpful for me providing very detailed and civilized responses as I hoped for, So forgive me if I seem like I have a Attitude, I came for help only to be pointed away,
if he didn't know how to help me he could have ignored the thread and allowed someone else who may...
I will Say Sorry if I came off like a child with a attitude problem, but I really dislike when people ask for help only to be thrown the "Google is god" card thrown at you, google has "All the answers"
The issues I'm having are a Minecraft related issues, So I did my research, all my research pointed me "here" for help/support, so thats how I ended up here asking for help.
Sorry if I upsetting the above user in any shape way or form but You slightly upsetted me with your response,
for future reference, please offer help or Links to solutions or threads with similarity, if you don't know, then ignore the thread and allow someone else to help. ^^;
I can't really blame some of the more active users here for giving a Google search response or not really helping as much as you'd expect. I personally see 100s of similar questions where it's clear the OP hasn't bothered to even search Google, nevermind the Minecraft forums, before creating a thread.
But anyway, back to the topic, going a little back to basics here but are you certain you have the PATH setup correctly for Java?
This I can understand the frustration levels you guys may be dealing with, but this is no excuse to take it out on every new member that shows up, but I Do understand where you coming from and (I'm a Peacekeeper admin on a few sites along with Webmaster etc.. Its challenging)
the path for java installed on my windows 7 64 bit system is C:\Program Files (x86)
Checking the file with chuksum and tools that check if a file is bad results to no bad file
I fixed the server issue using my roomies set up, perhaps you can assist me with the other questions I had.
