I made it through most of it but when i got to the part where you update it says this
Stopping all worlds to update server jars...
Minecraft server file not found!
Downloading minecraft_server.jar from http://minecraft.net/download/minecraft_server.jar ...
c10t mapping framework not present, downloading...
--DONE--
And after this if i try to click Create it will just tell me to update again. Help would be much appreciated.
Over the past two days I've been getting a number of emails about this, both people using the new ISO and the older one...one of the root problems is (presumably) theres a lot of traffic going on with minecraft.net, and it seems my scripts arent robust enough to give more information on why something (like a download) failed.
You can get around this by manually downloading the jar and uploading it to the FTP root--but I'll also be taking a look to make sure that my scripts give 'failure notices' instead of this 'we did all the actions, successful or not, were done' kinda behavior.
So, mind you, downloading the jar means it is attempting to, not necessarily succeeding it. Give it a shot again in downloading or upload it via FTP manually and you should be fine.
Ok so i tried it again a few more times and it still seems to not be working so i was wondering how would I go about manually uploading the server file? Your help is greatly appreciated.

Connect over ssh or ftp to the server.
If you connect over ssh, you'll need to 'cd /usr/games/minecraft' and find the minecraft.jar. My server is a ram-disk server, so mine is in /usr/games/minecraft/ram-worlds.
If you connect over ftp, it'll be in your ftp root directory.
Delete minecraft.jar (make sure to stop the server first!). Over ssh, you'd type 'rm minecraft.jar'.
FTP will vary by client. Usually, you right-click the file and left-click delete.
From the servers web interface, click 'update server file', or upload the new file over ftp into the ftp root directory. When it's done, start the server.
This is fantastic. For whatever reason people just couldn't connect to my PC when I tried to host (not even a server as such, just wanted to play with my friends). But this works perfectly.
Sounds like a port -forwarding issue, which is configuration that occurs outside of MineOS--on your router.
Is the download for the new iso up yet? I went to the website to download and it said last updated 1.4.11_07:56 MST.
I downloaded it anyway, and it appears to be identical to the old iso.
Anyway MineOS is awesome, thanks for all your efforts.

I have updated MineOS (4th ISO release) January 16, 2011. Taking into account about 3 weeks of feature requests and bug fixes, it may not be updated on top of an existing installation. Luckily, I have built THIS release with enough forethought that there will never ever be a need to upgrade from CD again (promise). The changes are listed at: http://minecraft.codeemo.com/changelog.html

It is up, but its not yet for wide-release. Almost all functionality is implemented that I'm aiming for, but it hasnt had enough playtesting for me to release fully. It's out there, but its directed at people who are a) familiar with MineOS and :cool.gif: able to provide feedback about issues that can be fixed. Once I get some sufficient feedback, i'll be replacing all my tutorials with the new one

Cool thank you for the reply. I am looking forward to getting the new version.
Not necessarily the case. Many people dont want to have an OS that serves no other purpose, so having MineOS within a VM allows them to get the best of Linux servers on top of an existing production computer, so that works for them. Additionally, VM hardware is pretty much universally supported, so theres that plus too. On the other hand, if you have a machine that doesnt need to do anything else, running standalone is a great option.
I managed to clear an HDD for installation of this OS. However, when it tries to write to sdb (which is the hard disk I cleared), for some reason it fails, and can't mount the image. Not sure why. Any suggestions?

Are you able to see what error you get (exact wording), and what are your block devices that exist vs what are you typing in?

I was able to get it to install now, after deleting any previous partitions. I had assumed the script would do that, but perhaps I was wrong, or maybe there's a bug in the script? Not sure, anyhow, I don't know the exact message, sorry.
Once it installed, I rebooted, but for some reason it did not want to boot from the HDD. I at first thought this was due to my other HDD with a win7 install, so I removed that HDD, but it would still not boot.
I instead have decided to install ubuntu server x64, and run the server from there, since I wanted to use the PC as a server for other things as well anyhow. (I just bought part to build a new desktop for games).
Would you perchance happen to know of a link to instructions for setting up a ramdisk with backups for a linux minecraft server?
EDIT: and I'd be happy to take a look at it anyways-- type in 'mount > problem; fdisk -l /dev/sda >> problem"
where sda is your hard drive designation (could also be hda, hdb, etc) and send me that file 'problem' thats created.
Ok, to be honest I'm not sure what my hard drive designation is because it never tells me which ones are available or which one I'm using and never asks me to type it in.
I typed in exactly what you said to and it didn't give me any error messages or anything. Where is this file called 'problem' supposed to be and how can I get access to it?
I checked the root of my NTFS partitions in Windows 7 and Ubuntu and there is no file named 'problem' on them. Thanks for the help.
hexparrot, do you have plans to integrate any other big, upcoming mod like bukkit, or something else, due to recent changes in this area?
Well, this new version can make a bukkit server just by selecting 'bukkit' instead of 'pure' from a dropdown. However, though it opens and starts the server properly, having no plugins makes testing beyond that pretty impossible. But, to the best of my knowledge, its about as good good as ready on my behalf.
I was playing around with MineOS a couple days ago and then I come to find there is a new version! :biggrin.gif: So I quickly snatch the iso and burn it to a disc for my old junk computer(soon to be minecraft server) and then realize you haven't actually released it. Very sad. :sad.gif:
Alright, another full days worth of working on it and I feel pretty good about the state MineOS is with its new release.
This release matches the FULL functionality of the previous release but changes a few key features and improves the Linux design immensely. You can see the full list of changes here: http://minecraft.codeemo.com/changelog.html
Note Note Note! FTP and the web-based SSH functionality has been removed. Like all professional Linux servers, when using MineOS, you are now expected to use SCP and a dedicated SSH program, such as the following freely available programs. This will not only improve the MineOS experience but also improve your competence as a Linux/Minecraft server admin.
In addition, MineOS is now Bukkit-ready. That is, it downloads and can start worlds using the bukkit wrapper. It is also prepared with the appropriate plugins directory for when they are developed and ready for mass-consumption. Hey0 support has been removed, as it is currently discontinued and not compatible with the recent Beta 1.2. And lastly, MineOS now allows directory browsing of c10t map files (port 80) and the admin page at port 8080. Be sure to read the full changelog! http://minecraft.codeemo.com/changelog.html
Edit: the default password is "minecraft2011"
Oh, and seriously, a lot of effort has gone into this and will continue to go into this--if you have a spare buck, please help keep this project (and the upcoming MineOS cloud) alive with a donation!
I didn't have this problem until today, but my server is having constant rollbacks. My character logs in, I can do actions just fine without any lag but when I log out and log back in, I'm rollbacked to a certain position and I can't stop the server from doing this. It also happens to every player.
I got it to temporarly fix by deleting some files such as my other worlds and it started working again without rolling back. Then after a couple hours the problem occured again. Do I have to change the amount of storage in sda to more? I kind of think 8 gigs should be enough so I don't think that would solve this.
Ok so i tried it again a few more times and it still seems to not be working so i was wondering how would I go about manually uploading the server file? Your help is greatly appreciated.
Im just confused on how to do this rite.....im a noob

I've made up a tutorial that may help if your friends are all getting the "connection refused: connect" error on trying to join: http://minecraft.codeemo.com/helpdoc_portforward.html
Failed to connect to the server
Connection Timed Out: Connect
Any ideas people? :/
Which is kind of problematic since I have to create a world just to delete it and re-upload my backup :X
I downloaded it anyway, and it appears to be identical to the old iso.

[edit] Trying it out now.
BTW. I like your cloud idea, but I would like to have the option of sharing the maps or not. (I would assume this be an option?)
So we can share our creations with others when we want to. By the Video of the new one, it looks great!
Keep it going. I appreciate your work! :smile.gif:

Same as last night I am still running into
Failed to connect to the server
Connection timed out: connect
I checked and made sure that i correctly forwarded the port and I did.
Help please.
Finally got it working, thank god. Thank you to everyone who helped me, and thanks for making such a great OS.
