I'm having a problem with the 8080 at the end of the ip address. I don't get a prompt asking for user name or password I just get an error page no matter what browser I use. I can get to the parent directory screen and all of the installation went smoothly. So what can my issue be and how can I fix it. Please help, thank you.
Means you didnt do step 2 of ./20_passwords.sh OR you didnt save it with ./90_reboot_sudo.sh
How to correct:
nano /etc/httpd.conf
should have one line:
/:admin:password
you can keep 'admin' as the username if you want or change it, and change password. SAVE the file. then
sudo filetool.sh -b
I did both of those steps. When I turn the virtualbox thing back on it gets the server is running screen fine and when I typed nano /etc/httpd.conf my password was still there. Is there anywhere else I could have made a mistake? Is there a chance that the admin port or whatever you call it wasn't set to 8080? How would I find out what it is set to?
It'll always run on port 8080, its built into the scripts, and theres no variance, etc. But if you'd like to check these things/try a different port, theres this:
I could use a bit of help here.
So I decided to install MineOS today, went throught the tutorial on your site without any trouble, everything went smoothly and just as shown in the video.
I can get on my MineOS Admin Page just fine, but my problem is that when I press "Update server files" or any other button really, no status/progress text is shown at the bottom of the screen, nothing at all.
The only thing it shows is the little Error on Page tag in the bottom left of my browser.
Pay in mind, I'm on a college dorm network and I won't have access to the router, not certain if that's the problem but at least it gave me the IP for the Admin Page easily enough.
You must be using Internet Explorer.
Sorry, IE seems to have some issues with Javascript that Firefox and Chrome etc dont have.
I'm relying on some JqueryUI business that I've dropped in the upcoming version, so this wont be an issue soon, but in the meantime, use FF or chrome and it'll work
my problem is i done every thing and wen im trying to connect with my serwer in minecraft its say Failed to Connect to the server. Connection refused: connect. Help pls quick PLS
Really dont have enough information to help quick pls. Such as, how have you verified youve done everything you needed. and. are you using default ports. or. are you trying to connect with your internal IP.
Alright. I've been at this for a good six hours now. Started just before midnight. It's almost 6am.
My issue with the install is that /mnt/hdc/boot isn't copying files over to /mnt/hda1/boot as I'm pretty sure they're supposed to. Rebooting into bash seems to make it freak out about not having it. So I'm trying to copy stuff over, but I'm plagued with permissions errors every time I come close to a breakthrough. I'm not terribly skilled in Linux but am familiar enough with it to know that what I'm trying to do shouldn't be this hard. Chmod doesn't work. The setup script didn't work.
I'm running this as a clean install on an old Dell tower at my buddy's.I'm about ready to pull my hair out.
When you say 'the setup script' didtn work, I assume youre trying that from the booted CD, correct? ( as opposed to running the file from your HD after copying it).
Boot from the cd and try running a world as a test. e.g.,
[boot from cd]
ifconfig (for your ip address)
cd /usr/games/minecraft
python admin_console.py update
python admin_console.py create one
python admin_console.py start one
See if you can connect or if there are other issues. This will tell us if there are any glaring issues that exist that ARENT cd-rom copy related. If this doesnt work (running a ramworld started from the cd), there might be issues that the tinycorelinux kernel hates your dell. (did you know there are dell-specific kernel modules in linux 2.6?)
If it hates your dell, then it could account for some of the improper startups.
If it doesnt hate your dell, then we have something to work with...we know its localized to the installation process, and i can help out there much more.
Also, if possible, when you try installing--before you go through the 90_reboot_sudo.sh, theres a file called install.tar.gz in the /home/tc dir. If you can SCP that and send it to me, it'll tell me whats going wrong.
It'll always run on port 8080, its built into the scripts, and theres no variance, etc. But if you'd like to check these things/try a different port, theres this:
When you reboot the server and you see the initial screen, do you see this?
emphasis on ''server started"
Initially I was just getting "server started" but now I'm getting this other message after I messed around with the port stuff. I changed the port to 808 on both bootlocal and iptables-rules. Everything is on Accept too. So now what? I imagine I have to fix this "Permission denied"?

The format of the change you made to iptables is incorrect.
You malformed an argument somewhere in bootlocal.sh with the httpd command.

I messed around with it a bit more and my screens are looking like this now. I'm still not getting a prompt for my admin username and password. None of the other ports like 80 and 22 are working either.

This might be germane, because I was having problems with the 8080 thing as well, and am on Optimum Online:

Hi im wanting to upload my world onto this mineOS but i cannot find the directory, i left everything how you set it in the tutorial so its mnt/sda1/minecraft
I have no idea where to look to upload my world
This has already been covered several times in this forum.
You might want to take a look at the video tutorial on the MineOS website's WebUI tutorial. Pay special attention around 4:19, where he talks about archiving and importing worlds.
Also in this very same thread (search really is a wonderful thing! Keyword = transfer) here, here, here, and probably a couple more places, but I got tired of copy/pasting the url. It really is a simple process. If you don't have much experience dealing with a command line interface, use a program like WinSCP which will give you drag & drop capabilities thru a Windows app.
I've changed the 'MEM' entry to 3072 (for 3GB of ram)... Written, saved, closed. I hit sudo filetool.sh -b, then I stop the servers and try to restart them, but they're still pulling up with the default 1GB:
executing command: cgi-bin/server.cgi?command=create&world=one&memory=1024&port=25565&max_players=30&mod=bukkit
{'command': 'create', 'memory': '1024', 'world': 'one', 'max_players': '30', 'port': '25565', 'mod': 'bukkit'} Environment: World one (1024 MB) running bukkit on port 25565 - max_players = 30 world not found, creating new worldfile...
populating world...give about 20 seconds
world generated and ready to go!
Having a frustrating time trying to increase the memory allocated to my server... Machine has 4GB of RAM to work with.
What am I doing wrong here?
tbh, might just be a cosmetic error on my behalf. ill look into it.
in the meantime, from the command line, if you type in 'top'
to see all the running processes, what do you see for the java process
running your world under VSZ?
if it says 1000-1200, then theres definitely a problem im gonna trace down.
if it says 3000-3400 etc, then its properly allocating the memory that you are asking,
even if it is misreporting.

1181 is what java's reading out for me, but the process is only showing up while it's trying to create the world; at some point along the lines, the 'start' button for world 1 switched from resulting in status: up to status: down, lol.
Edit: Followup.
Interestingly, when I set the MEM setting back down to 1024, world one was more than willing to start up again. At 3GB Ram, it would refuse, and return world one: down. So, by turning the MEM up in the defaults, somehow it stopped working entirely. Am I missing something?
Edit again: more followup. Java will run if I set the MEM value to 1024 or 2056, but not 3072 [3gb] or even 4096 [4gb] on a lark. When set to 2GB and running, it shows a VSZ of 2215, so it is doing that properly.
'free' in the console shows the following:
total used free shared buffers
Mem: 2593956 455712 2138244 0 38136
Swap: 41608472 0 41608472
Total: 44202428 455712 43746716
Is this helpful or indicative of anything?
One more edit: I can push it as high as 2.5GB before it refuses to start the world anymore.

If the hey0 mod is anything like it was before, you just need to take the minecraft_server.jar file that already exists, adn delete or rename it.
And then take your hey0 jar, and rename it to minecraft_server.jar
/usr/games/minecraft/uservars
anytime you make a change, be sure to
sudo filetool.sh -b

So youre getting stuck on the download part? the burning part?
Need more information on where youre getting stuck and what info youre gettin back.

surprised the httpd is working okay.
the format for arguments should have a space inbetween, such as:
-h/var/www/httpsdocs

Apparently the ISP blocks that port.
A friend who is infinitely more knowledgable than I with linux fixed it using voodoo that I don't understand, but something to consider.
@hexparrot
Adding a space didn't make anything better. I still saved though.
@jamesessionein
How would I unblock the ports? I tried going to my Windows Firewall, but I can only add a program there and not a port.
Please ive been trying to figure this out for like ever
So.. the simple answer is yes.
Most people run it in a virtualized environment, but it'd work perfectly well as a standalone system on dedicated hardware.
