Recently I have been hosting a server, that I use to play while away, however when my sister on her laptop wanted to play like she normally would, it showed "Can't resolve hostname" and when we tested with my lan world, it did not show up on her laptop, however she could connect to both using direct connect, and for the lan world, by creating a server connection with the lan world properties. Likewise when I tried to connect to her lan world, it did not show up on mine. Yes I have disable any or all firewalls and antivirus she may have had, and I don't use antivirus. It is not on my end I have already found this out. what might have caused this to have happened to her computer? thanks for the help, and for reading through the long paragraph.
The host name issue leads me to believe it is a problem with your home network. Have you insured your router has for some reason not put up its own firewall? Has the IP of the server changed? Further more have you done the basics and power cycled your network?

Yes I have done all of these, as for the IP I don't understand how this would effect the lan server, as the laptop is the only computer unable to connect in my house, and I have no problem connecting to the server from any other computer anywhere, local or not.

Yeah, I know and can portforward, and she can connect to the lan server via direct connect, but not my main server, and I also have to direct connect to her computer only. so only via direct connect, But I want to solve this, because you can't make a server entry, because it gives the can't resolve hostname error, and even if you can connect via direct connect, it does not let you connect with the saved details.
(Sorry if I am not being clear).

port forwarding would generally not apply for traffic within the same network, only traffic that comes in from other networks,
hang on, she can connect, but only when entering the servers local IP address?
not really a problem then is it?
its fairly normal for computers on a local networks to address each others local IP's
