I am trying to install minecraft forge in a named .minecraft folder (ex: .minecraftmodded). whenever i try to select the folder it says 'The Directory is Missing a launcher Profile. Please run the minecraft launcher first" but i already have. I logged in and everything.
So, the named folder is empty? Or does it have things in it?
Or you can try this. Lets call the named folder 'A' and the normal folder 'B'.
Rename B to 'temporaryname'. Rename A to .minecraft Run the forge installer and install mods. Rename A to whatever you wanted it to be. Rename B to .minecraft
i would try the way u suggested but it wont let me rename the folders in the roaming folder if i put a period in front of it. whenever i try it says "please select a file type"
I solved it!. you have to install it into the regular .minecraft folder then when u open the launcher, edit the forge profile then change teh game directory!
you go to your .minecraft and change all the files with the name "launchers" to "launcher". Then you can install forge. Once installed , open minecraft and delete the "launcher" files as the minecraft would have created new ones.then its done!

Hate to *BUMP* those old topics but I just had to say something about this. There is no way you even have Minecraft if you don't have a .minecraft folder. The only way that's possible is if you have Minecraft Windows 10 Edition or Pocket Edition. If you're not using either and you ARE using the PC edition then open file explorer and in that little bar that should say something like "star/Quick Access", delete everything in that box and type "%appdata%/.minecraft" and right there is the .minecraft folder *Magic*
Uhm. I found that the easiest way to fix this error message was to simply copy the 'launcher_profiles' file from the .minecraft folder and put it in the newly named folder. Worked with no issue for me.
