Did some searching but can't find anyone with this issue - I am running MCPE 0.9.5 on my Amazon Fire TV (purchased from Amazon app store). When I try to join a game on an external server, I get a message saying
You need to be connected through WiFi to play on external servers
My Fire TV is connected with a wired network rather than WiFi for better performance. Seems that the version on the Amazon app store is not checking for a wired connection, and so disallows the external connection. Incidentally, if I start a local game on the Fire TV, I can connect to it just fine over WiFi through the router from an Android tablet/phone.
Is there any way around this? Maybe a bug should be filed?

If the message does say "through WiFi" as opposed to "to WiFi", it probably doesn't support wired connections. That isn't a bug; just an unimplemented feature. I have no clue as to why they wouldn't support wired connections.
I don't think there is any way around your problem, however I do not own a FT, so I cannot test it.

Thanks.

Sorry.
Nothing to see here.
