Spent half a day looking for a seed that I liked, spent the next day and half digging out a Slime farm.
When I was mining the slime farm (Which is near the ONLY village on the seed and was FULL of villagers) and when I finished it, it seems all my villagers were committing suicide with a cactus plant that was just on the edge of the village. I panicked and ran all over the village trying to find the rest and came up with only Two left. I immediately corralled them into a lighted pit to keep them safe.
My problem now, is that they don't seem to be breeding.Ones a Fletcher and the other a Shepard. There are doors around because I'm still inside the village. I've even added a few more doors around the pit area.
All they're doing is tossing a loaf of bread back and forth to each other.
How can I get them to "Feel Like" breeding as the tu31 update says they'll only breed if they feel like it. How do I get them into the mood (Can't dim the lights and play mood music)
Help! I'd hate to find out after all that work, my seed is a dud because I need villagers.
Survival Mode Only BTW, so not going into Creative.
EDIT: I've been tossing stacks upon stacks of Carrots, wheat, seeds, bread, and also purchasing from them.. Was off collecting more wool for trading again and when I came back there was a baby in teh pen... So from what I can tell is that you need to feed the hell out of them or trade a bit... Any more input on this would really help.
EDIT #2:
I've created a Villager farm. Basically a box with door all around all enclosed to prevent escape.
After I wrangled my two villagers into it and been doing nothing but throwing Wheat, carrots, seeds, and potatoes into the center they've been pumping out babies. In past hour I've gained 6 extra villagers, by doing nothing but feeding them.
Not sure if they'll keep breeding if I stop feeding them??? Any insight from anybody would be great to hear.
****** AND LAST EDIT: Because these builds work in PS3's TU31 update. Just remember all farmers have to be brown coats. It doesn't matter what their profession is, just as long as they have brown coats, and no aprons.
I now have a breeding station and farm to feed the station.
I built this (70 blocks away from ANY village)
and I connected it with this (70 blocks away from breeding station and other villages) using a water aqueduct system.
I just need to find a good Villager sorting system and I'm back in business!
When I made a villager breeding cell I made sure that they were in a small crop with a farmer. He will harvest the crop and when he is full there will be plenty of food left for the others. Their inventories will get full I think and trading with them will kick them off. They'll start off slowly but before long they start kicking out more then you will need.
I have done this many times on the PC and I think TU31 was brought up to the same requirements. So full Villager inventories or suitable trades and like 3 doors per villager you want/need.
Yes I did that I only have 2 villagers one is a farmer and idk what the other is but I put like 20 doors and a farm of carrots I left them there for about 3 hours and nothing happened what do I do
Do you know if they need sunlight because I have them underground with a couple of torches
Just feed them like crazy, Throw stack of potatoes, carrots, and wheat at them. They'll pick it all up and breeding will start. I've got a ton of new villagers. And also created an auto harvest farm.

Like I said, Feed them.
throw stacks of Potatoes, carrots, and bread at them. They will breed when their inventories are filled. I ended up putting a wheat farm in my breeding farm and they're breeding like crazy. Only thing is I can't find a villager with Nothing in it's inventory now.
Found a good tutorial to get blank villagers for my next project. If it works I'll post it.

When I set up my breeding pen I made it so the 1 block tall babies would fall into a 1x1 hole and be pushed to another holding cell with water to grow outside the "breeding village radius". This prevents their inventory from becoming corrupted and I could cherry pick villagers for the best trades before being moved to the trading station. The breeding cell continues to produce and never reaches its capacity.

I build this
and I connected it with this (70 blocks away from breeding station) using a water aqueduct system.
I use a minecart transport to take the villagers to the trading station that I build using This design:
I personally have used modified versions of these for sorting villagers for trading. I imagine if you needed one type of villager you could add a trench in front of the trading cells with water to push to holding cells (use pistons to dictate which holding cell.
Well I had everything working perfectly, but today it all stopped for some reason. WTF????
I currently have 30 Villagers in my world. I have built a Villager breeding station, automatic farms to feed these villagers, and a villager trading station. All of these were working perfectly fine for the past week. Today however, all the villagers in my whole entire world have just stopped breeding altogether. Not even showing hearts. This is both in the Breeder AND in the NPC village.
I throw stacks and stacks of food (Wheat (to farmers), Carrots, potatoes, and bread) at them and these stacks will just sit there on the ground. They won't even pick the items up. Any villager, not just the farmers.
I have restarted my world several times and this does not help. Even exiting to the Sony XMB screen and then reloading the game doesn't work.
I've gone around my world killing off any unessential villager I found. Leaving me with just 30 villagers total.
Before they stopped breeding altogether, they would just show hearts and not produce baby villagers at all, but exiting and reloading the world would get them breeding again (Same with the farmers harvesting crops) but now, nothing happening at all.
Now I know you'll have to reproduce this, but this was all working fine for the past week and all of a sudden stopped. I can only suggest that you build a farm, and have them breed like crazy and kill off the extras as they are produced. This is all in Survival Mode too BTW.
I don't know how it works specifically on the console mode but this may help you (or not). In the PC if you kill villagers too close to the "village" you lose reputation and if you lose too much they will not breed. Also, every time a village dies within the range off the village a clock start to count down and village won't breed. The only way to increase reputation is by trading if that is indeed the case. This is why on infinite breeders on the PC version we redirect unneeded or wanted villagers into a transport system of sorts (I use water tunnel that drops 1 block in altitude every 7-8 blocks) to move them outside village radius where they are pushed into a lava pit to die. In this manner my reputation stays high (since I didn't kill them) and I keep only the valuable Priests, Farmers, and good traders.
Also, in PC if mob griefing is set to off all stops because the farmer is unable to harvest crops. I don't even know if this is a setting for consoles.

Hmmm. I'll have t o see if I can trade with the ones I have trapped in the breeder. But I don't think that will help because ALL my villagers world wide are not spawning any baby villagers. Not even the hearts are appearing.
*sigh* I was hoping and depending on you being right about trading with villagers to get them to start back up again. But I've traded and gained a couple of stacks of Emeralds in the process in proof of how much I traded with them all. I even went to my iron golem farm that's over 300 blocks away and even those villagers in the cells aren't breeding, and I've never killed off any there at all.
There is Definitely something buggy here.
Everything was working perfectly up till last night when I shut it all down till today when I started the game up again this morning.
Spent a few days building this all and when It's finally completed, it breaks with no apparent reason. So frustrating!
AND NOW: it seems the farmers have all given up now too.
I really hope the next bug fix addresses this or I'm about to throw a controller through a TV.

Do you know if they need sunlight because I have them underground with a couple of torches
It isn't considered a village without direct sunlight adjacent to the doors. I have made underground villages successfully like such:
Oh so I need to put a torch next to every door can it be on a block below it and is this because of the 1.8 update
Hello ?
I fixed it all I needed was sunlight
That is what I indicated above. "It isn't considered a village without direct sunlight adjacent to the doors."
Just feed them like crazy, Throw stack of potatoes, carrots, and wheat at them. They'll pick it all up and breeding will start. I've got a ton of new villagers. And also created an auto harvest farm.

Simple breeding farm
Trading cell
Advanced Trading cell/torture chamber
Simpler sorter
