Hey, so I'm kind of a casual 1.8 PVP player, and one day my keys just got unresponsive out of nowhere. I have literally checked all windows settings possible to try to identify the problem.
My keyboard doesn't seem to be like this outside of Minecraft (lunar client specific) it has happened with the regular launcher too but not as often as with Lunar client. Also for example when I jump it's sometimes up to 3 seconds delayed, my mouse isn't like this it's only my keyboard that does this which I find quite weird but IDK.
I have tried all settings in-game and I still can't seem to identify the problem. Also, something that has started to happen a lot more is when I open Minecraft my computer gets kinda laggy, I am playing on an Asus laptop but it usually isn't like this.
I'm pretty sure this is a software problem but I'm not too sure, one thing that I've suspected is that it's about how much ram I've allocated to Minecraft because I'm currently only allocating 6GB to it but I think I used to allocate 7, not too sure tho (I have 16GB installed right now)
If anyone has any idea how to resolve this problem please tell me because it's been like this for quite a while now and I literally have no idea how to fix it, thanks!
Alright, I'll make sure to do that later but it has gotten even worse now, almost all of my games have delayed keys now but it doesn't happen in non-games for example notepad. It just happens in games...
Hey, so I tried to change the Java but when I try to change it in the launcher I can't find the javaw.exe file. I did find it in the normal explorer but I just can't seem to find it in the launchers like the change option thing, I went to the exact same folders as you advised me to but it just wasn't there even when I searched. The only stuff that popped up in the bin folder was this:
Minecraft does NOT require 6-7 GB - try lowering it to 2 GB, which I believe is the default, or uncheck the JVM arguments box so the launcher resets them to the default; your computer may be running slow due to lack of free memory, forcing it to page to disk (It doesn't matter if you have 16 GB, only what you actually have available, and the JVM itself uses a lot more memory than what F3 shows; a common rule of thumb is to never allocate more than half your free system memory - note that this is free, not total). You also seem to be using -Xms7G since the game will never allocate 100% of that much memory, at least not under normal circumstances (and especially not on a multiplayer server with a very low view distance) - you shouldn't use -Xms at all, only -Xmx, letting the JVM decide how much to allocate.
Also, always run separate versions in separate profiles and game directories; many game malfunctions and crashes are due to running different versions in the same directory, thus they attempt to read configuration files for the wrong version (this especially applies to downgrading, many older versions (at least) had no verification of settings and will even try to use settings that crash the game):
This is also necessary if you are using different Java versions; if you can't find a Java folder in C:\Program Files then you need to install it from the official site (by default the launcher uses a JRE provided by Mojang, hence you don't need to install one; Mojang only supports the latest version so they wouldn't bother providing an older JRE even if it causes older versions to crash or bug out; this goes double for modded versions, which may require older versions of Java even if vanilla has no issues, largely due to a bug within Forge):

I don't know why this is happening, but that said as TMC mentioned Minecraft does not need 7gb of RAM allocated to it, I'd say unless you're using mods which you haven't told us you are, Minecraft can do just fine with a minimum of 2gb allocated, even with a 32 chunk rendering distance, although 16 chunks in vanilla Java is preferable in most cases to prevent lag spikes.
Also an interesting fact is allocating too much memory can make performance in the game worse.
Check your Windows Task Manager and you'd understand why, when all your applications are consuming too much total memory, what ends up happening is some of that gets put into the pagefile on your disk drive, which is slower than RAM.
Also the more data you force the CPU to work with the worse performance will be, and more allocated means more info has to be repeatedly cached and flushed out, this is why simply throwing more RAM at things doesn't necessarily improve performance of a PC, it can in some cases, but most performance problems are solved with either higher bandwidth RAM, a better GPU or CPU.
I did try to lower my allocated ram but literally nothing changed, I do indeed understand why it wasn't really the best but I'm still having this issue sadly...
Disable the Nvidia Overlay (GeForce Experience setting)
Also restart your PC or check the task manager for running programs - maybe another program is draining your system performance
I haven't heard of a case where reinstalling drivers affected unresponsive keys, but it's worth a try I suppose.
Did OP recently change gaming displays? sometimes monitors, especially older or cheaper ones, can have such a large input delay that it literally makes games unplayable, also when gaming, all monitors should at bare minimum be set to 60hz, higher if supported.
Disabling triple buffering in the Nvidia Control panel may also help, if it has been left on.
From my experience it can be related to LWJGL which is part of CPU/GPU drivers
LWJGL is completely separate from any device drivers - it is what Minecraft uses to interface with them, and older versions in particular have known bugs and/or bugs introduced due to changes to device drivers/OS since its release (this is an issue with any software); for example, some people can't run 1.12 or older versions in fullscreen as they crash (something about the keyboard not being created/initialized), or the sound system fails to initialize (the frequency varies with it failing almost all the time for some people while it has only happened a few times for me), and so on.
These issues seem to be specific to a particular hardware/software configuration as not everybody experiences them, and since LWJGL2 is no longer officially supported or updated the only fix is if somebody was able made an unofficial patch/mod for it; for example, a few years ago (seems to be due to some Windows 10 update) I started having an issue in 1.6.4 where the direction you look in changes after closing a GUI after moving the mouse when in it, which I fixed by modifying the game's "MouseHelper" class.

RESOLVED: it was windows power toys keyboard manager that in some way had configured the keyboard in a way that caused input delay, I checked in task manager and that was the only thing that helped. also thanks to the person who told me to allocate less ram, it also kind of helped with keeping my PC stay cool and helped the cpu
From my experience it can be related to LWJGL which is part of CPU/GPU drivers
I've heard of video lag causing delays or unresponsiveness, but this is usually to do with the display and the video card, either because the display response time is too slow, causing input delay, or because the game is simply not running at a consistent or high frame rate, V Sync with frame rates less than your monitors refresh notably cause this.
I'm not saying unresponsive keys can't happen without having anything to do with the graphics card or display,
but it doesn't appear to be very common, and if it ever does happen, would a driver reinstall fix the issue?
if it's a bad or broken keyboard, then the keyboard itself would need replacing.
Oaxtrix fixed the problem with task manager it looks like, so that's good.
Means no repair was needed to the laptop.
Also it was wise to optimize the amount of memory allocated to Minecraft,
because if the RAM is overused, then lag or stuttering can be caused by the pagefile,
and as was implied by the previous post raises CPU usage and temp.

Ingame press F3 and add a screenshot of it
Is there the same issue with other Minecraft versions? Make a test with 1.13 or newer
Yes, I've had problems with newer versions too. It happens on all versions and it literally just gets worse every day.
Also, my computer gets a lot slower when I open Minecraft which I think is very weird. Anyways, here is my F3:
this is on 1.8 btw
Try to run Minecraft 1.8.9 with Java 8
Currently, you are using Java 16
Install Java 8:
https://www.java.com/en/download/
In your Launcher, check for the Java settings - there is a way to change the Java Executable
Change it to:
C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.8.0_311\bin\javaw.exe
Alright, I'll make sure to do that later but it has gotten even worse now, almost all of my games have delayed keys now but it doesn't happen in non-games for example notepad. It just happens in games...

Could you maybe attach a video showing me the files so I know what to do?
idk what to do
If it affects your entire PC then it may refer to another issue
Open the Launcher - go to settings
Java Settings - there you can change the Java executable
Then navigate to the javaw.exe at
C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.8.0_311\bin\

Why do I still play in 1.6.4?

If it is affecting other games, the Minecraft RAM allocation is not the issue
You have to search outside of Minecraft - so something on your system causing this issue
Start with running the AdwCleaner: https://www.malwarebytes.com/adwcleaner
Reinstall your Nvidia drivers (checkmark clean installation)

Disable the Nvidia Overlay (GeForce Experience setting)
