If convert 1.12.2 to latest 1.13 snapshot, the world starts over, losing all houses and boxes, etc. Probably because of the new world generation system. Will this happen with the released 1.13? I do like the fact that 1.13 doesn't have all the crashes that occur with 1.12, but if have to start world all over (for about the 10th time), I may halt playing until things settle down. Presently playing a 1.12 world and a 1.13 snapshot world.
Thanks for interest. When trying to convert from one version to the other, it shows up in red and tells you that data may be corroded. So I'm sure the designers know what's happening. Wish they would tell us if that will be true for released version.
Have not tried to convert 1.12 world through intermediate snapshots. Not much help since released version will be after the latest snapshot. What I would like to know is if 1.12 version will still be available once 1.13 is released, or if will be forced to "upgrade" to 1.13. At that point, if world can be converted (with structure intact), or be forced to start new world. Prior to 1.13, version structures were able to be upgraded to next version, although some features would not operate unless world created in new version. With 1.13, the new world generation system has so far made it incompatible with older versions. This is requiring mapping software to be changed to accommodate the new system. If the new system can't convert old structures into the new system, perhaps a "compromise" could be arranged by allowing your character to "carry" a load of items and materials so he doesn't have to start a new world from scratch. I had the impression this occurred during my conversion attempts.
Just did a conversion each way. Converting from 1.12.2 to 1.13 snapshot left world intact, so hopefully no problem with released version. Did a conversion from 1.13 back to 1.12.2, and world structure was lost, but character still carried his usual load. So problem is only one-way.
yes, 1.13 uses a new save format that is completely different than the old one, moving to 1.13 will be final, same way MCRegion and Anvil were so long ago

have you tried making a backup then bringing it through each snapshot one at a time?
