MInecraft stopped launching after going to that newest launcher a few days ago. Eventually I deleted the came and all folders, and re-installed. But when I try to launch, the little "Downloading Native Launcher" screen comes up, with a progress bar that moves toward 38.81 Mb, and when it gets to the end it resets to 0, and continues endlessly. On rare occasions when it gets to the end it has brought up another larger window, as if Minecraft will start. But this window is blank, and remains blank - nothing happens. The only thing in my .minecraft folder is a file called launcher_log, when I open it the contents are as follows:
[0213/224557:INFO:LauncherAppBrowser.cpp(24)] Work dir is C:\Users\Matthew\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft
Trend Micro HijackThis is a utility that is used to collect diagnostic reports of your computer to help narrow down an issue you may be having. Download: https://sourceforge.net/projects/hjt/files/2.0.520beta/HijackThis.exe/download Run the program, choose "I accept", then "Do a scan and save a log file". After a while a text file will open. Do you mean uninstall Webroot temporarily, just until I can reinstall and run Minecraft the first time, and then I can put it back on and it won't interfere? Webroot has done a great job of protecting my computers for the last three years, and I have most of a year left on my paid subscription, so I don't really want to just scrap it. And it hasn't interfered with Minecraft before now - is it just the new launcher it doesn't like?
Also, I tried turning off Webroot's Realtime Shield, Web Shield, and firewall, and Minecraft still wouldn't start. If it was Webroot blocking the game, I would think that would make a difference. I do appreciate your help and don't want to be a doubter, but if Webroot is the problem it has a funny way of showing it.
I'm not sure you read my questions and concerns about getting rid of Webroot. I'm looking for help getting Minecraft working, but without losing a program that is important to my system's security, and which hasn't prevented us from playing Minecraft for the last several years. I really appreciate your help with that.
Webroot SecureAnywhere AntiVirus was known to cause issues before, same as mcafee. Mostly LAN issues but it may block the new launcher from updating too. The other way is open your settings, navigate to System Tools --> System Control --> Control Active Processes and make sure Java or Minecraft are set to Allow, but uninstalling is safer.
If after a uninstall and reboot it still doesnt work, you can install it again

I can't find Control Active Processes in my control panel, maybe it's called something else since I'm running Windows 7? I did make sure Windows Firewall was set to allow Minecraft and Java.
So I finally did try uninstalling Webroot from my computer - it didn't seem to be the issue. Even without it I continued to have problems with the new launcher - over and over again I tried uninstalling and even manually deleting all Minecraft folders and files from my computer, and re -installing with the new launcher. A couple of times it did install and start up with the new launcher, but even when this happened, if I closed the game and tried to start it again a second time, I couldn't.
Eventually I found that the website still has the old Java-based launcher for download, and after updating my Java I used this and it is working. I have Webroot back on since it isn't interfering any with Minecraft, and getting rid of it didn't help. I do wish I could use the new launcher though, since it says that it is "faster" since it doesn't rely on Java. I wouldn't be tied to having to update Java every so often, as well. Can you think of a reason the new launcher isn't working for me, knowing now that Webroot wasn't the cause?

Deleting and reinstalling isn't helping - please help.

I did remove Akamai.
Try uninstalling it, not just removing it
