well I obvously didn't see it...but it doesn't make sense, I update my java regularly, use it only for the same things the friend I play MC with does, and I've got the same memory in MC that she does!

Does your friend have the same specs and model setup you do? What she does won't always work with what you do.
If you are running at the highest video settings, like fancy and Optifine, that will really bite your memory back a bit. Too much is happening on your PC, and there is not enough allocated ram to give to the process in order for it to remain functional. Instead of 1GB, you need to allocate at least up to 1.5 or 2 gigs at most, and not leave the game running when you aren't using it. Don't run too many other games or processes that will use your memory, and tone down your visuals a bit, to get the best FPS.

You may have the ram but you must manually allocate more.
