Hi everyone!
I recently re-installed after years of not playing and saw that you now have the option to have multiple profiles. So does this mean that you can have more than one person play on one account? For example, say my girlfriend wanted to play. Would i be able to download Minecraft onto her laptop, log in with my info, then make her her own profile so we could play together using the multiplayer option? Or would i need to buy her her own copy of Minecraft to be able to play with her via multiplayer? Sorry if this has already been answered many times before but as i said I've been out of the loop for a while now haha, thank you in advance to any helpful answers!!!
Sorry, but that's not how profiles work. You'd still need a different account for her to play online with you.
The profiles are just a way for you to tell how to run the game. For example, what folder to use for your data (what would normally be the .minecraft folder), what game version to launch, the Java parameters, etc. It's all using the same account.
So let's say for example you want to play vanilla Minecraft, and be able to easily switch over to use Forge. You could add a new profile for Forge, and choose the Forge jar as the game version. Then you just pick the Forge profile and click Play, and it will load that version of Forge.
