I have 4 GB of RAM, and quite a lot is reserved for my graphics chip. I think out of the 4 that I have, 2.75 is for me and 1.25 is for my GFX, giving my GFX 512 MB to work with when I'm using RAM for Chrome, etc. I have about 1200MB allocated for Minecraft, and I get this:
when I have Chrome AND Minecraft open. Minecraft uses all of the RAM I give it, and frankly it needs more. If I can get 8GB with 4 dual channel I will but with my current system it's not worth it.

A wild opinion appeared! Everybody freak out and start insulting each other because you don't agree with it!
Uh, I had to switch to Linux because I got a new HDD and my install of Windows wasn't exactly..Mine...and I dropped my laptop. I'm on Ubuntu now and still lose RAM...

Hi,
You should not need to allocate more than 1GB to Minecraft.
Are you using any resource packs and/or mods to the game?
If not, can you give us a screenshot of the F3 menu and Task manager when you launch Minecraft?
