If none of this helps then yes update to the new launcher... but prepare for a load of other problems. If you're lucky you'll be playing normally lag-free!

Optifine breaks the iron Titan/anything else that require the spawn chunks because that's how optifine gets higher fos by unloading all the chunks it can.
It might be Java 8. Since Java 8 still has some conflicts with Minecraft, Java 7 is recommended. So, you'll need to uninstall Java 8 and re-install Java 7. This is, of course, if you have Java 8 installed.
