I had Minecraft 1.5.2 yesterday and it was working fine, today I tried to get a new mod with swords and shield slots in the equip, when I did that it said it needed a mod loader, I had forge mod loader but it needed a different mod loader so I downloaded that as well, it said that I needed to delete one because they weren't compatible. I couldn't single out the files so I deleted the entire .Minecraft and re installed with the updated 1.6.1 version. When it was done I went into the app folder and there was no bin folder (which has the minecraft.jar file) so I couldn't install forge. Without forge I can't get my mods back and I'm wondering how to get the bin folder back with the minecraft.jar file in it so I can re install mods.
I've uninstalled and re-installed everything and it doesn't work.
Is there a new method to installing mods on 1.6.1?
I literally am having the exact same problem. If someone knows the solution to this, please tell us. I honestly don't know where the bin folder went, or how Minecraft is working without one.
no mods have been updated yet as far as I know. you need to check the version number that it is compatible with, for instance [1.5.2] means it will only work for 1.5.2 and [1.6.1] means that it works with 1.6.1 which is the latest version.
You make a backup of the 1.6.1 folder rename the folder, the .jar and the .json to what ever you want open the .json file with a text editer change the 1.6.1 to what ever you named the files and folder to and then open the .jar that was named 1.6.1 with winrar, 7-zip or Jzip and delete the META-INF folder download the latest version of FML for 1.6.1 and drag all the files to the .jar that was named 1.6.1 and then your done. I don't know how to add mods, but I think you just put them in the .jar, but still back up the modded jar because I'm unshure if that's how it works.

How can I get the bin folder to show up?
Yes, there is a new method to installing mods.
I'm assuming you have the new launcher, so I'll base this off of that assumption. Navigate to your .minecraft folder. Open "versions". Right-click the folder marked "1.5.2" and copy/paste it back into the "versions" folder. Rename the copy to whatever you like, but the name cannot have any spaces. As an example, let's say you name that version "1.5.2WithMods". When you open that folder, there should be a jarfile and a .json file. Rename both of those to your chosen name: in this case, 1.5.2WithMods. Next, use a text editor such as Notepad to open the .json file. The very first piece of text you see should be "id": "1.5.2". Change that "1.5.2" into your chosen name. Close the .json file. Now all you have to do is add your mods to the jarfile in that folder. In order to access the version you've just made, open the launcher, click the button that says "New Profile" and select that version in the drop-down menu.
The new jar is in the folder versions but whenever you try to install a mod into 1.6.1 jar the folder auot corrects it self and deletes to mods files why did they make a new jar file and a new launcher anyways

I have followed 6 different tuts to try and get FML to load up in this new MC setup, either FML is ignored entirely, it corrects the jar file, or it it quits with 2 errors, nothing I do gets FML to load into this new MC setup. Could someone PLEASE direct me (us?) to a proper tut?

the newest forge versions have an installer, so just use that and forge creates it's own profile: http://files.minecraftforge.net/
