What is happening is that my minecraft is crashing after i install modloader and nothing else, and I can't seem to find the problem. I have deleted Meta inf, followed the installation instructions, and even redownloaded minecraft and nothing has helped.
This is what pops up after I install Modloader

If you already have a mods folder with mods already in it you should delete them and put any newer versions in.
Even if you don't have any other steps to installing them done.

Well the thing is I don't have any other mods installed i'm just trying to install modloader so i can get mods. I've tried many things but have yet to have any luck getting it to work properly.
Same thing is happening to me. I have no mods installed yet, followed the instructions to the letter, and get the same error message about "invalid entry size... but got 782 bytes" as the OP.
Was trying to install Tropicraft 3.0.2, so I first added ModLoader, then the recommended version of Forge, and then tried to start Minecraft (with and without Tropicraft in the /mods folder) = crash.
EDIT: Darius, are you using IZArc to edit your jar file by any chance? I am, and I know IZArc has issues when it comes to adding the contents of subfolders into an existing archive. For instance, when I added Forge to my jar, it did not add the content of the /forge and /net subfolders -- I had to add those separately. But anyway, it still didn't work after that for me...
However, I found a thread on another forum related to the exact same problem, and that person was also using IZArc. After trying everything he could think of, he tried editing his jar with 7zip instead of IZArc, and it worked. So I'm going to try with another archiving program too -- will report back if it works.
EDIT again (fixed!): Just reporting back to say that editing my jar file with 7-Zip instead of IZArc fixed my problem. I knew IZArc had issues with subfolders, but now I think it may also have problems overwriting existing files.

AlleyRat, yes I am using IZArc to change my zip folders, but I have not had any problems installing any mods on an older date minecraft but I am now, but seeing as changing to 7zip, I may just try that and see if it works. Thanks for letting me know that it worked for you. If I try it and it works I will probably report back and say if it fixed the issue or not.
EDIT: Thank you AlleyRat changing to 7zip did fix the problem, thanks for suggesting it, it was getting rather frustrating having it crash but doing the change did fix it so, now i'm happy.
wish i could say the same. my minecraft is crashing with the same invalid entry size thing.

I DO have quite a few mods installed though. but i think they have nothing to do with this. if you want to know whats installed its:
Player API client, Mine & Blade Battlegear, Decoratives mod, Too many items, Modloader, MC forge, Modloader Mp
and Optifine. I tried Un-installing all of them and it DID work but... once i installed Modloader it started crashing...
Im also getting the same error after installing ModLoader, first time i did it i tried downloading ModLoader 1.2.5 on 1.3.1 Version of the minecraft... then realized i need same version... no difference if i download the ModLoader for 1.3.1. Also tried deleting the Meta.INF folder, still a crash... i thought that maybe i should change my .Rar to 1.2.5 and download the ModLoader for the 1.2.5 version of Minecraft but that also doesnt work... thats a pretty big issue alot of people get :/... it probably depends on your PC... maybe the Graphic Card cant handle the ModLoaders contetent... I dont know but i would love getting an answer to this Forum
