playing on a 2009 powermac laptop running OS x 10.5.8 , using minecraft version 1.7.4, I went into video settings and selected fullscreen then tried to go back to the game and the screen was all black. I've since tried to download a new version of the launcher but the screen is still all black and can't figure out how to rest it. Any help?
I'm having the exact same problem as OP but I'm running the game on a 2008 MacBook 1.4. I accindentally hit the fullscreen option in the options during playing and it went all black. Nothing I've tried works (the hotkey for fullscreen is command + shift + F on my laptop but it doesn't do anything - even cmd + tab does nothing). I just hear the game music when I start and I can't do anything else than force the game to close. Any ideas how this could be fixed would be greatly appreciated.
Also, Minecraft doesn't show in my library and I my MC launcher has no Force Update -button in it. I hope this'll help a bit:

Hmm... In 1.6 pressing the fullscreen button (green +) caused a kernel panic. This may be related. But it's probably because 1.5.8 only supports Java 6.

I updated my Java to the newest version this os supports but at least that didn't help.
Better than deleting options.txt, just open the file, scroll down until you see fullscreen:true and change that to fullscreen:false. That way you won't lose all of your other preferences
In Finder, select Go To Folder from the Go option.
I went to finder on my computer (macbook pro with os 10.5.8) and there was no "Go" option, so I was wondering where to find that. I kinda want to get back on minecraft.
This is why you shouldn't press F11 in Mac while playing Minecraft. I don't know why this werid glitch happens, it's maybe just a bug or so. But i don't why this happens to Mac's. I think this rather be an odd glitch but, i think this as oddly looking glitch.

I tried F11 in all of it's many combinations with other keys. I've tried Alt+Tab. Nothing worked.
But then... here was my fix. I still can't go fullscreen, but at least I am not stuck in fullscreen/blackscreen. Maybe it will work for you too.
