Is there anything that could set the affinity of Java?
In Task Manager, right-click on Java.exe (or Javaw.exe) and click on Set Affinity.
If there's only one checkbox, then Java is only allowed to use one core.
Quote me for a reply.
It's not a matter of letting it use multiple cores. It's fine in that regard. It's that sometimes apparently MC glitches and for no apparent reason uses 100% of one core, despite nothing really going on. Closing MC and logging back in fixes it, and CPU usage goes back to normal. I keep resource monitor open constantly to watch for it. It's not a big issue, since my PC is powerful and well cooled, but I don't want one core at 100% wasting power and generating excess heat for no reason.
I have updated drivers, and GPU usage is extremely low when I run MC. My 660Ti is downclocked to idle which is 342MHz currently, with Advanced OpenGL on. Idling at 40% fan and 34C.
Hey, I have i5-3330 .
The same happened, until i opened task manager, and noticed that it only showing only one core, when i have 4; i fixed it.
Is this happening to you?
It sounds like you sadly have a virus, your computer over heats, or graphic card. You should try downloading Malwarebytes. http://www.malwarebytes.org/
If it's not working turn off your anti-virus or use game mode when you are playing Minecraft.
Edit: You may have many programs running in background. Try running Minecraft in Safe Mode and see how that turns out. To enter safe mode hold f8 as soon as your press the power button until the computer starts beeping and select safe mode.
I'm having similar problems to this. Brand new computer, can easily run ANY game at over 100fps, except Minecraft, where it starts at 70% CPU and slowly but surely creeps up to 100%... anyone got a fix?
However, since 1.5, the CPU usage on ONE core will seemingly randomly jump to 100% and stay there until I quit MC entirely, and restart it.
It's really weird how one core gets locked at 100% and the only thing that will fix it is exiting MC entirely, then starting it again.
It happens apparently randomly(although I know it must have some specific cause), not after a long time being on or anything.
I'm also sure that it's not another program using the core, because it says Java is using the CPU.
