ok like the topic says the launcher will not connect and its really bugging me because i am trying to install mods and needed a vanilla minecraft, whenever i start it i get a ding sound like an error happened but no window pops up telling me anything, i am also running windows 7, but when i open the launcher it just shows the loading update news and it doesnt load, it also will not let me login.
So you still aren't getting the login screen to load so that you can login? Did you already clear out your install and just can't login to redownload? Are you using the default launcher?
It still will not load, when i open it theres a ding like theres an error i have everything closed but it just wont load the update noews and when i hit login after i put my information in its says cannot connect to minecraft.net....

Shut down your firewall. I had the same problem for a while where if I log in, it doesn't load the news and when I click log in it will be stuck at the Logging in... page for 5 minues until I recieve the cannot connect to minecraft.net message. You have the option to play offline, but it's low quality. You won't:
have your skin
Have your regular player name (you'll be called Player)
Have access to most singleplayer commands
Be able to play on servers
I don't know how other firewalls are, I have ZoneAlarm, and it was extremely strict with Minecraft launcher. I couldn't even allow it, and if I did, it would change it to no access. So if there is a Shut down firewall for 5 minutes option like ZoneAlarm, do that. It's a little risky, but it's only 5 minutes until it comes back, although it does get annoying when you have to keep restarting the countdown. If you don't have any option but to completely shut down your firewall for whenever you want and you want to take the risks, do that, but only if you want to take the risks, because I don't want to be telling you to do something that's extremely risky while you have the option to play offline. So yeah, it's offline or online, your choice, both will lead you to Minecraft playing.

I tried it with terrible results. I gave my wife my glasses for a second, a creeper showed up and now my wife is pregnant.
