Just an idea I've been tossing around, but I think it would be cool if, rather than making the already existing village model more abundant, as has been done in recent updates (1.4 I think?), what if they made more types of villages. For example, right now there is a village. The village may be made out of sandstone if it's in the desert but it's still the same village. I feel like each village should be unique to it's biome, making the desert villages more desert-inspired (maybe a Pueblo or Middle-Eastern feel would be cool).
In addition, rather than only having witch huts in the swamps (I think they're cool, but could use work), what if we had entire villages built on stilts, with fences for windows, paths of lilipads, et cetera, as you would expect a swamp-based community to have?
Similarly, in the forest, we would find small, upright houses scattered here and there, surrounded in farmland, not necessarily in village format.
On another note (and this is one of my favorites), in ice plains biomes, what if we found either igloos or something like a Viking longhouse, where all the villagers were implied to live and work in the same building (it would have to have a lot of doors along the side as to not mess up population but it would still be cool.)
My final idea for an NPC structure is castles. Don't get me wrong here. I understand that a large part of the game is building your own castle, but what I'm thinking of here is the ruins of castles, all smashed in and randomly generated, like the castles in the Nether, but filled with cobwebs, hostile mobs, and chests of loot. They could be handled like the Nether castles, with separately designed rooms randomly generated together, and could even connect to the already existing strongholds, or they could just be built nearby every NPC village. Doesn't matter. The point is, jungle and desert temples are cool, but building castles for the grassland equivalent would just be awesome.
Any thoughts? Suggestions? Criticism? Comment below!
Nice ideas. One suggestion I heard before somewhere was about Jungle Villages, that were in the trees and used ladders to get up to, and would features rope bridges to get between huts/houses. I do like a lot of these ideas though. Maybe 1.7 or 1.8 could feature a village overhaul.
Anyway I support this idea.

May I just say that I love this idea? It's so good!
Would you mind if I made a mock-up for you of this kind of village using your specifications, and you could tell me what you think and/or how to change it?
Also, should this kind of village have any sorts of unique buildings? I was thinking about a church that's shorter and longer than the towers that already spawn in NPC villages, because that somehow fits the swamp to me (I live in the US irl, there're tons of swamps in the biblebelt states, haha), but I think there should be more varied kinds of buildings. Any ideas?
I like the idea of biome specific villages, but not castles. If they were implemented differently yes, but the ruins of a castle next to a fully functioning village would be a bit odd, don't you think? Especially if it was full of hostile mobs.

More in the spoiler to avoid stretching.
