Alright, so bookshelves are all well and good for decorative purposes, but wouldn't it be nice if they had some kind of purpose other then just decoration?
So, I'm suggesting manuals. Books that have tutorials about how to make certain things that would be made with what they will inform you about
For instance, a redstone manual.
= redstone, = paper

Giving you the redstone manual. You would need three of manuals/books to make a bookshelf, as usual, and you would right-click on the bookshelf to open up a manual.
You could also have crafting recipe manuals and recipe books if more, elaborate foods, like cakes, are added.
i like the idea of making a book shelf more than just for looks. there is no text in the game as far as i know of save for the chat box. you could make the information be streamed out in the chat box when you click on a specific book.

True. That way you'd be able to reference them whilst working rather then having to go back and forth between bookshelves and your work
Suggested many times before, still a good and necessary idea. Check this thread for writable books and this thread for various predefined book recipes.

I'm still looking for more feedback on my configurable Redstone Gate mod. All gates and common circuits (such as e.g. clocks, edge detectors, latches and Flip-Flops) in a single block.

Re-posting ideas? What do you mean? I merely linked to some existing threads on the topic that I know about.
