Would you really rather have bees that make diamonds and oil with magical genetic blocks?
... did I really ask that?
I have tried Quicktime and OBS but still have serious lag. The type of Mac I'm using is an older version. Idk if the lag is from a lot of files or my Mac being so old that it cannot handle the screen recordings. I have no clue =/
Definitely. 8G is enough for just about any kind of recording, I personally have 4G of RAM, minecraft runs at 120+ fps, and quicktime works fine. Also for a good editor, either iMovie or VideoPad will do.
One serious problem with iMovie as an editor is that it only shows one (combined) audio track. Other editors show your microphone on a separate track than the game audio. (Assuming your recorder records them on separate tracks).

Hello. You can use quick time player on macs with mavericks and up. All you have to do is hit control command N and then quicktime will guide you from there. It's quick, easy and fast. It's also free for mavericks and up!!
MacBook Air (Legacy Edition, 13-inch, Mid-2015)
Usually gets 430-500 FPS on Minecraft while recording with this tool. Hope it helps!!
Last time someone mentioned it in this thread, it was in Beta, but I'd like to state my success with Iris, especially in conjunction with Sound Siphon. I will have to purchase a new mic for better mic quality, but I have a Late 2009 iMac and I have no dropped frame rates while recording.
The Encode Later option is what does it. It saves the recording in a proprietary format to encode later into h.264 or what have you.
For an idea of what it looks like on screen:
The Talking Head option lets you record from your webcam as well at the same time with Picture in Picture.
Sound Siphon lets you combine multiple apps and devices into a single virtual sound device, so you can isolate the sounds you want to record. The two go hand in hand.
So since Youtube is my day job, this is kind of relevant to my interests. I personally record in Acethinker Free Screen Recorder ( http://acethinker.com/free-screen-recorder/ ) mainly because the ability to split mic audio and game audio is immensely helpful and allows you to correctly balance the too; I do keep a copy of fraps on the side though, there's a few games (including Dragon Age: Inquisition for some reason) that simply won't work with Acethinker, so whilst Fraps is immensely outdated (and produces far too big video files), it does have it's place.
Audio has all the problems of audio on the mac, sadly. Sound flower based audio solutions work. If you use 10.9.5, you also have Jack Router based audio solution.

Any questions, let me know!
Is this for a mac? Is there any hotkeys? and if on mac what version is the lowest?
when I use the quicktime screen recorder for the first time, it wouldn't close, nor could I make another, so, I searched the forums. this is the furthest Ive gotten so far. could you please help me if you know how to fix this problem? please? anyone?
no idea bro. I am looking for a decent screen recorder as well. hope you find out!
if on mac then right click the quicktime icon on the ask bar and click quit or force quit
"Encode Later" consumes a HUGE amount of disk space. My machine can encode in real time, so I stopped trying to use it. I do mean HUGE (8 to 10 times as much).
Drawbacks of Iris:
1. No real control over the quality of the recording. OBS lets you control the quality / space tradeoff.
2. Camera/picture in picture can only go in one of 8 (9?) spaces -- not enough control over where it shows up. OBS lets you reposition / resize the camera freely.
3. While you can control which apps audio you want to record, they record on the same track. In contrast, OBS + Jack Router lets you record each app on a different track. NB: For 10.10 and above, Jack does not work with apps that only output to the default audio device, which includes minecraft -- you need something that can select a specific output device. For 10.9.5, OBS + Jack router works very nicely; for 10.10, it fails to record minecraft without running sounds through something like sound flower (which kinda defeats the goal of separating programs ... sadface).
NB: Sound Syphon is free to use when using it to record with Iris. It is not free as a standalone program (to control audio levels from each program separately, etc.).
Does Iris have hotkeys? ... Yes, actually -- now I remember. Yes. Yes it does.
(so does the current version of OBS).
Benefit of Iris over OBS: Much easier to set up, and record. Much less likely to forget a setting and mess up something :-). (Please don't ask how I know.) OBS does have a bit of a learning curve, expect your first non-trivial recording to be a disaster.

Use QuickTime Player to record your screen, microphone, and game sound, via SoundFlower?
Alright. You'll need one more program, to copy your microphone to SoundFlower. Look into LadioCast -- it can route audio like that.
When I did this, it worked for a while, and then the audio broke into noise -- I never did figure out which program was messing up.
From memory:
One soundflower device is your default output. Minecraft talks to that.
LadioCast copies that soundflower device to system speakers, and to a second soundflower device.
LadioCast copies your microphone to the second soundflower device.
Quicktime records the second soundflower.
Second soundflower has game output and microphone.
First soundflower is sending game output to speakers for you.
Quicktime picks up both on the second.

You could also use Audacity, but that is an external program.

Have you tried Bandicam? It's great for recording Minecraft and I've never had issues with the speed of the video.
Screenflow shall be good for you.
Love myself, love my life!
I use QuickTime Player and it lags, but the computer itself is at 60fps, but QuickTime does about 15....
Also found OBS recently, search it up.
