This is helpful, but it applies to more people than just MC YouTubers. I don't think it belongs on this particular thread. But I do agree that this stuff is very important when navigating / commenting on YouTube. If you make a thread about it, I'll put it in my signature and at the bottom of this thread. But I don't think I'll add an actual section on commenting here. I will, however, translate a couple of the things you said about comments into points about video commentary.
Also, a note about the "personal beliefs" side of things: I agree with you, that politics, religion, etc. should not be discussed on a video about Minecraft. There is a time and place for everything, but that place is not on a Minecraft video. If you make another thread about commenting, make sure you specify that (because, obviously, talk about religion and politics are acceptable on videos about religion and politics).
Finally, if you choose to make that thread, be careful about exaggerating things. You took a lot of flak on the thread that inspired this one because it was a rant thread, and a lot of the things said were exaggerated. (Just an observation.) It still seems a little bit like that on this one too (e.g. the introduction).

Thanks. I don't think I should have too much of a problem with the exaggeration since I think it is something most people can agree on. It's not like there are devoted fans of the YouTube comments section.

When does it cross over to mindless entertainment? If you could help me clarify when that happens, I'd greatly appreciate it, and I'm sure YouTubers would as well.
Question: When does it cross over to mindless entertainment?"
Sagely Answer: When the entertainment lacks mindful content.
Okay, seriously though, comedians are a great example of this. Some just do things that are fun to watch, while others have content that gets people thinking, somehow helping people change their thinking, perceptions of the world (MC or IRL), ongoing mood or behavior in positive ways. In a way, it's like the intro relevance thing, if the entertaining content has relevance and meaning beyond the moment or interacting with the content (consuming, remembering or talking about it), then it isn't just entertainment. For instance an AMV that mixes the music and images/videos to not just work together, but to bring out meanings in both. They engage our minds, beliefs and perceptions, with the good ones doing so in mostly positive ways. (Nobody's perfect, so neither is the content produced.) The better ones trigger meta-cognition and thinking about our choices, beliefs and actions that can lead to people changing their lives for the better.
While that may seem to exclude the storytelling content, it doesn't. Better storytelling has real life lessons woven into the story as part of the depth and believably of the world, characters and story. Shallow writing, flat characterization, cheap laughs and primarily appealing to base desires are all aspects of poor storytelling, even if the technical skill is off the charts. Most forms of media show this line with a little observation and consideration, with the "better" content being the ones that engage and stick with us. Mindless entertainment doesn't engage the mind, beliefs or make us think about how we perceive the world.
I really like how you said "Minecraft YouTubers need to play with their fans, not for them. Click here to see why, and on the banner to see how." I think you should ask supporters to put that in their signature along with the banner in the OP.
maybe this is unimportant, but, some fans may be cannot be encoutered cause by the distance, they want to play with their fans, but their fans is too far from him.
I have some ideas for LPs on Minecraft content to make it unique. Thing about this is while it may be considered to be sharing creations, I don't want to give tutorials and I don't want to make up a story to go with it. But I need to have fun to produce a quality channel, and I don't while RPing or going into a creative world and making redstone contraptions/builds to show off or teach.

A famous Dutch comedian (Youp van 't Hek) once said (in Dutch of course): "A good comedian is first of all funny, second of all funny and third of all funny." [...]
And I agree with him. People watch or read first of all to enjoy themselves. Even those who read complex literature or visit musea, are doing that first because they enjoy it, it gives them pleasure. So good entertainment, thus good Minecraft video's in this case, are in the first, second and third place entertaining. [...]
SkyDoesMinecraft for example makes quite senseless video's indeed, but once he said in a video that he has no other purpose with his video's then to make (young) people laugh, to help them a little bit through the day when they are depressed or just sad, like he once was. And to be honest: I respect him for that and I hope that he will fulfil that goal many, many times, whether I like his video's or not.
So, here's the thing, there's a huge difference between helping people feel better and creating content to appeal to the lowest common denominator. That why I specifically included "helping people change their ... ongoing mood or behavior in positive ways". That's not just being entertaining, but doing so in a positive way, being an example of healthier, more positive, ways of thinking, acting, speaking and enjoying life. Those who make content to help people feel better generally set an example of better ways to go through life, encourage people to live more positive lives and attract those who appreciate that kind of approach to life.
That's true indeed. But as I see there are two kinds of helping: the one you are mentioning here and the one where you just give someone a good laugh. Sometimes people have already a lot of things on their heads and sometimes sad or depressed people are just tired from goodwilling people talking about good life, inspiration and being positive and all.
Sometimes they just want to sit, empty their minds and have fun without thinking about anything. It can be a whole relief when your head is not overflowing with thoughts. And not only them, but people who are enjoying life will also have sometimes that need. Because the brain is as a muscle: it needs care and rest from time to time.
So I see it as and and. Some people are good at inspiring other people and being a good example. Other people are good at making people laugh (very loud). Both are needed. We can not only be thoughtful and we can not only be thoughtless.
And if someone has been depressed, but is able to step over his or her shadow and is even able to make other people laugh in a maybe very simple, childish way, maybe without being that great example yet, then that person has already overcome a lot and can be respected for that, I think.
I must agree with you. People do need to relax, and take a break, and get themselves recharged for the next round. However, the problem is that people latch themselves on to mindless content, and never going back to the stuff that matters. And that is why edifying stuff is so hard to find these days. People are fine with becoming complacent, never wanting to change. This is what we are trying to combat here. If we can't get our community back in gear, Minecraft will surely and utterly die.
I'm considering changing the thread title and banner to say "complement" instead of "counter." What do you guys think?

Good guidelines. I can find little to disagree with on any one point.
My new YouTube channel is, for the moment anyway, just a way for me to relax and do something I enjoy (therapist demands!) but I do hope somebody is entertained or educated by some of my videos some day. That said, "I pledge to better myself, my channel, and Minecraft with every video." I was going to strive for that anyway but, hey, I'm aboard your bandwagon.
It's an expression. It's not about literally playing with their fans. It's about how YouTubers should treat/talk to fans like they are actually playing with them, and they need to play the same "game" in the sense that they are on board with what their fans want as well as what is best for community. That's my interpretation, at least. OP, what does it mean to you?
Forgot to comment on this.
You nailed it. Obviously it's a good idea to make an effort literally to play with your fans, although the problem will arise that sometimes the fans cannot connect with them in that fashion. So they connect by making the community and the game a better place for each other, thereby indirectly playing with each other.

I don't know if that is completely true. First of all, if most viewers are children, then they will have already a lot on their mind, namely school. They have to attend classes, make their homework when assigned, keep up a social life and at home listen to their parents. So they will already diverge between mindless and thoughtful things.
Second of all, this also counts for mature viewers: they have college or work, also a social life, all those things.I agree, and will say that for some people, many things take precedence over Minecraft, and they play as casual gamers. I kind of forgot about them when I made this thread. That's part of the reason I changed the title of the thread from "counter" to "complement." I'm speaking more for the dedicated Minecrafters, because the majority of Minecraft videos are aimed towards those casual gamers, and so that quality of being "casual" becomes imputed to the entire Minecraft community, making outsiders people who don't play the game deterred by it, and those who play it. In fact, I would say that this could go for the entire gaming community as a whole, as most games are becoming this way, and so the quality of being "casual" is being imputed to the entire gaming community as a whole. In reality, that's not why games are made (erm, not why games should be made): to be played and thrown away. I don't want that kind of prejudice hanging over us as Minecrafters.
If you talk about the makers, well, in real life you have also comedians and other artists who want to bring some thoughts through the show, and those who just want to have fun with the audience.
Maybe the "fun makers" can become the majority, but that has always been the case in every large community with a form of culture. The "high culture" attracts always less people then the "common culture" en the best cultural works, the real master pieces, attract both followers. It is just a fact of life and I don't think that is really a wrong thing.
Like a quote I read someday says: God must love common people very much, because He made so much of them. Not sure that quote is a truthful statement, because everyone is unique. "Common" is a term that we as humans impute to people in a particular area, not what they actually are in their being as a whole. (Not picking on this quote because it has God in it, mind you. I'm a Christian.)Also, what I was trying to say was that we should strive for the higher things, if possible. The problem comes when the casual gamer culture gobbles up gamers who could possibly take Minecraft to another level; the people who could be dedicated gamers, but are instead taken over by pop Minecraft culture.
YouTube and Minecraft are both quite easy accessible, especially creative mode. So of course a lot of people want to put all their creative and not so creative works on it. So now it is just more visible what I wrote above. You will notice that in every accessible form of culture, not only at Minecraft.
But after a few years, the children will mature and their preferences will most likely change. Then the more mature YouTubers will come in sight... or not. It is always possible that the interest in Minecraft will also decline by a lot of those children, so that they will seek another form of entertainment. And that's okay, that's not a real problem.
There is more in life then Minecraft and when Minecraft becomes less popular again, a more commited and mature community will eventually remain anyway.I know I would prefer if that wasn't the truth, but you're right. If this pop Minecraft culture remains, those who engaged in it will move on to other things. But I would like to have everyone in on the game, in a community that is always growing. Maybe that's the game designer in me coming out. (Or maybe I'm delusional.)

Doesn't matter what the press says. Doesn't matter what the politicians or the mobs say. Doesn't matter if the whole country decides that something wrong is something right. This nation was founded on one principle above all else: the requirement that we stand up for what we believe, no matter the odds or the consequences. When the mob and the press and the whole world tell you to move, your job is to plant yourself like a tree beside the river of truth, and tell the whole world — "No, you move
And can you write WHO HAVE the bad minecraft content? because, i have different thinking than you, i feel that their content is not bad, for example: Sky playing on Epic Jump Butter Sky Edition, with the theme that squid trying to take over all the butters in the world and change them to gold. thats ok, but why you respond it as serious as the bad content? and what is the meaning of 'over top mods, unoriginal pvp map, and DESTRUCTION' for you?
That's true indeed. But as I see there are two kinds of helping: the one you are mentioning here and the one where you just give someone a good laugh. ... Some people are good at inspiring other people and being a good example. Other people are good at making people laugh (very loud). Both are needed.
Inspiring people to act better is helping them change their behavior.
Helping people feel better is improving their mood.
These compliment each other quite well. However, people try to accomplish these things in different ways, some in positive & healthy ways, some in negative & less or unhealthy ways, and some just do whatever they think will get a bigger, more profitable audience. Some humor is healthier than others, has a more positive attitude than others, helps us deal with stress in healthier ways and guides us to focus on healthier things to think about. Those we hang around and interact with affect us, and both YouTube and Twitch are ways for people to interact. Whether humerus, or not, this goes for all content.
This is what I was trying to get at with the comedian analogy, some are just trying to get a laugh regardless of what it takes or the effects they have on their audience, while others consider how they get the laughs, how they affect people and how they can be a positive, healthy influence. Those who help us feel better, who make us laugh and those we like are people we are more likely to act like, consciously, or unconsciously. Words and phrases they use might become part of how we speak. How they play games might influence how we play games. How they have fun or solve problems might give us the courage to try a new way to do those things. We see this regularly in the gaming community, and life as a whole.
It's not about the thinking we do while playing or watching. It's about the thinking that goes into choosing how we will act, react and the effects we have. Some is conscious, some unconscious, some logical, some emotional, but all of it can be positive and healthy, or negative and unhealthy. Troll compilation videos are not healthy, even though they entertain many people. Silly prank videos between friends on a server are usually healthy, even if it's just two friends respectfully messing with each other. Both are messing with people, but the trolls are not trying to be uplifting, friendly or a good example, while the friends are.

I applaud you, good sir or madame (as the case may be).
I have a small Youtube channel where I essentially play Minecraft for fun. At the end of ever video, I do say "If you liked this video, be sure to leave a like, and if you didn't, that's fine, I don't really care," mostly because I see a lot of hate about my FPS. "ur lagging girl you should quit Youtube" Lol no. (I may or may not have responded with a bit of a rant :3) I try to respond to every comment (I can't always do that as people have their replies off) and if I use another person's work (for example, I made a video clip with someone else's music and my outro is a song that allows me to use it but requests credit) I will credit them. I'm not an amazing editor, but I'm better than I was a year ago (I went from using Google+ HOA to record and no editing to using BB Flashback Express to record and Videopad to edit... I don't have enough money for anything better and I am used to them so I'm fine). I learned that Optifine, Fastcraft, and FPSPlus really do work (I have a horrible computer, so I can't run 1.8 worth a darn, but I still have a few 1.7 servers xD). I know I'll never be perfect, or the best Youtuber, or the most famous, but I do my best to make my fans laugh, smile, and just enjoy themselves. I do focus mainly on Minecraft, but I have played other games (most of which take an hour to load with my internet but I do them with friends :D). I do have family/personal issues that prevent me from uploading a lot, and I will address that if I have to leave for a while/cram whenever I can (for example, homecoming week, school, etc.) but I haven't gone super in-depth with my personal life (I've tweeted out on Twitter sometimes when I'm worried about my/my brother's safety and need someone to talk to, but I don't think I've ever gone past "help I need to talk to someone" or "don't be scared if I leave Twitter for a while." I once made a 2 hour talk video that actually told people something about me. I was extremely nervous to edit it (render) and post it... Then my computer couldn't even handle exporting from FBR to AVI format. xD It just wasn't meant to be. I try to do well with everything I do. I have issues sticking to a schedule (just due to PC issues... and the fact that I like to procrastinate), so I do a really loose one (e.g. 2 vids a week, 3 vids a week, etc.) if I can even do that. I'll do what I want with my channel, but I am open to suggestions.
I pledge to better myself, my channel, and Minecraft with every video.
