Um not really sure where to ask this so if theres a better thread to ask please tell me! My problem is when i upload my videos to youtube they dont fill the entire screen of the player. I save them in the highest setting for WMM and ive tried messing around with stuff but nothing changes.
Video for example:
YouTube LP'er and forum member Etho discussed in his what's good for making a successful let's play. A couple points of notice.
1. He made a very good point: your first episode is a make it or break it deal. If your first episode is not good then people won't come back for more. In addition, if you do get popular then people will go back and look at your first episode. Make it nice.
2. Have an objective for what you are doing.
3. Be unique! Consider three people: Etho himself, who approaches Minecraft in a technical manner, which surprisingly looks very creative in appearance; Yogscast, who have changed Minecraft from a simple sandbox game to a complex adventure machinima; and Kurtjmac, who had a somewhat typical let's play but then decided to start walking to the Far Lands, something nobody seems to have tried and stuck with for as long as he has. Now he does it for charity as well.
4. Practice commentary before you start making the videos, and also be sure the videos look decent. Both of these are needed if you want to have a successful let's play.
Thanks for the awesome write up! It really helped me get some good idea's.
I am currently trying to make my own let's plays and its a lot harder that I imagined it would be but good fun all the same.
I'd also recommend Bandicam be added to the list of capture/encoders. Pretty much all the power of FRAPS with a bunch of extra and damn useful options - the main one being able to encode with different codecs. The default is a MPG standard which is fairly small and of high quality, but you can also use Motion JPEG which is a huge boon to us using Sony Vegas or another more high-end video editor.
It can also create multiple audio streams, for voice and for game, so you have the ability to mute any sniffs or coughs you make, lower the game sound when needed, etc.
Comes with a download/trial (which has a watermark and 10 minute limit, annoying I know) .. but it's only $40 for the full version.
Whilst I wouldn't recommend it, you *can* just capture and upload to YT if you wish.
When recording in SMP with Skype or any voice communication software, disable any sounds such as the ones that play when a participant starts or stops speaking in vent. It is also recommended that only one person speaks at a time, viewers will be annoyed and frustrated if one persons voice is constantly interrupted. Also the person who does most of the speaking should be the recorder as he or she will have the highest voice quality.
Also about cutting out mining, you should note that some Let's Plays focus on being "pure" as in that no footage is removed. Many viewers enjoy this as it gives them a full view of what is happening- also cave exploration is generally more enjoyable than strip mining. If you are cutting out footage you should start shortly after entering the mine and restart as you leave, cutting out footage when you are building it kind of annoying (viewers like to get a sense of the LPers constructions).

Hey! I was wondering... does anybody want to do a multiplayer let's play with me??? I have a server that we can play on, however, I need YOU to have the recording software and a Youtube channel to post the videos on. If anybody is interested, E-mail me at [email protected] and we can talk about it :biggrin.gif:

Hi, I am new too this sight but I have read alot of the forums before. So basicly I learned how to use propper grammar from here and my favorite teacher :smile.gif: . But more importantly I need a free online camera NOT HYPERCAM and I can make a pretty legit Let's Play, Considering i've never played without mods :smile.gif: so message me a link to a camera download and i'll include you in my soecuak thanks part and probably invite you to be in my Multiplayer Let's Play :smile.gif: .
This is actually really helpful. I've been looking to upgrade my editing software from Windows Live Movie maker. Sony Vegas seems like the best option but i cant tell which versions are what. The link on here has a bunch of stuff some look like tutorial DVD's and others software. The main program itself looks like 600 USD which is nuts lol. Can anyone help me out and tell me which version of Sony Vegas would be good? If its that super expensive one I guess I'll be looking for another alternative. Thanks!
