I have been waiting for my spinning head for a few months now. For those of you who are in the same boat, I have an alternate solution.
1. Click here to go to a Planet Minecraft page, where you can download Mcwar's Rotating Forum Head application. At first, it may be a bit confusing to run. 1a. First off, you'll need to be on a Windows computer. If you're on a Mac, you can use VirtualBox (VMWare) (it's free) to run Windows (while still on your Mac) (there are alternate programs, but some cost (Parallels is a great one, but like I said, it costs)).
2. When you run the file, you'll find that you can't change the head image. To do so, quit the program, and unzip (or look inside) the jarfile. To unzip the jarfile, you can use WinZip or a similar program (for Windows), or the Unarchiver (for Mac) (Archive Utility does not work, and Jar Launcher will just try to launch the jarfile, but you're on a Mac, so that won't work).
3. Once inside, go to net/minecraft/skintest/gfx, and find char.png (or just "char"). Replace this char.png file with the char.png file of your character (your skin file). 3a. If you don't have a char.png of your skin, go to minershoes.com, scroll down until you see "Enter a minecraft username and edit that skin:," and enter your Minecraft username. Wait for the page to load, click on "Download," and voila, you have a sketch.png file. Rename the file to char.png, and then replace the old char.png with this newly downloaded file.
4. Now, run the jarfile again. This time, you'll see your head spinning. Click on the box that says "orange451," and replace that text with your Minecraft username. Then, just choose the settings you want by clicking on each button as many times as necessary, and you're almost done!
5. Click on the "render" button at the bottom of the application. Your gif file (your spinning head) will be in the same folder that the jarfile was in. Open it to see your spinning head, or upload it to the Minecraft forum as your picture, and you're done!
