Here is a screen shot of an underwater dome I've been working on in survival mode for the last 2 years.
The view from above
It's 201 blocks in diameter and the glass ceiling curves gently down from the central glass support. The central support reaches all the way to bedrock and I'd like to mine out the stone to for a bowl which bottoms out at the bottom of the central support. I've saved up thousands and thousands of rare building blocks including the material from an entire sea monument which used to be nearby. My goal is to build a city inside the dome once I mine the floor into an interesting sloping topography. If there is any interest, I can find a way to host my level so everyone can take a crack at building a city inside the dome.
Here's an interior view. I've screen captured in quakepro fov because normal fov doesn't do it justice.
P.S. Used a fill, cover, and cut technique to create the underwater void. Then I built the glass dome before letting the water resume it's place above.
BagleBelt / pupnugs - The outer edge of the dome is about 10 blocks below the water surface and the sea floor ranges from 5 - 25 blocks below that. I would estimate that the ocean in that area has an average depth of about 20 blocks. Deep enough that when the sea monument update came through a whole bunch of stray guardians started spawning right on top of the dome.
After I laid out the perimeter in dirt, starting at the central spire, I filled one region at a time with gravel and sand and then a layer of dirt just below the water surface. When I ran out of fill I would go down the stairs in the middle of the spire and empty all the fill out using the torch drop method. I also mined out the softer parts of the sea bed so over time I was able to make larger and larger areas of fill. When I had hollowed out the entire area of the dome I replaced the edge with stone up to the height of where the glass would be. I built the dome itself under the dirt ceiling I had created starting from the centre and working outwards. I laid out the perimeter, central spire and all the different layers of the dome in CAD first. It would have been too difficult to figure out on-the-fly
This is the deepest naturally occuring point in the area covered by the dome
those of you wondering why i don't have an active RP (so far none). i try. but whenever i get to the rules section of it my computer restarts. computer: i realise what your telling me and i give up.

About how many blocks from the sea floor to the dome?
Neat! What was your method for building underwater?

Really cool. Looks like you put slot of time, effort, thought and creativity into this! Very proud of you, great job!
nice project was doing it underwater hard? how much time did this take?
Thank you! Yes it was hard, well time consuming. It took 2 years to get it to this point. I'd say an average of 2 hours a day.
Well, good job! Your creativity is amazing! I will look forward to your updates ... GrannyP

Nicely done!!
are you putting up a download?
like many users of the minecraft forums i'm a member of the server total war (IP:167.114.100.168:438) the server includes a 1:1500 scale map of earth.
