For a year now, I've been working on my Castle Project. It is built on a Hardcore pvp anarchy server, where griefing and raiding is allowed. The castle is built 100% legit in Survival, no creative mode or help from admins. The curtain wall of the castle spans roughly a 300x300 area.
The only thing keeping it safe is insane distance from spawn. Check it out: (hey, maybe even go on a journey and come find me out there, hehe).
Do you think I'm not aware of the existence of worledit and creative mode? The entire point is to build on Surival 100% legit in a hostile environment. That's what makes it more amazing than any of the examples you posted.
Thank you for your input, however. I hope to hear from more people that actually appreciate the challenge of building in survival.
Given that he wasn't claiming his castle was pretty I think he could reasonably expect not to be criticized for its looks. I think his point was that he built something fairly enormous on a server where it's perfectly legal for someone to come along and destroy his work in any way they see fit. I'm honestly not sure why you're critiquing him based on the aesthetics of the build when that's clearly not the point.
Yes thank you. Besides, the castle isn't finished, so detail will be added later. I hate the square tower, but we had to build it quickly- it's a mob tower. The ugly mushroom shaped one is an iron farm.
I have always held by the viewpoint that making an impressive build is much more impressive if you do it in survival. Having to mine out all of the resources, defend yourself from hostile mobs (and other people in this case) will always be more impressive then someone just popping into a creative world or using worldedit. Now, just because it was made in survival doesn't mean that it can't be pretty but you said it isn't finished, so i can't really fault you there. I personally use a lot of dirt as place holders that are later replaced.

I feel very sorry for you. Using creative to do something that could be done in survival is just laziness.
