Also, can you give me a rundown on how did you make the image map that opens your post? I mean, I know how to render from the files and all, but I am more interested in your Photoshop technique to make it look like that!
There's no magic or advanced techniques involved, so anyone can achieve it. All I did was take the image file UnMined generated of the world, crop the relevant part, and then resize, border, and filter it. The region borders were just hand drawn with the line tool making many, many layers and then merged together, and stroked (the dotted ones were simply erased at intervals to get the dotted line look). See, I told you it was nothing advanced or fancy. I'm actually sure there probably was a faster or easier way to do it, but... I'm not one who knows that stuff haha.
I finally got the chance to see all your pics and have the world download. I can't help but be amazed at the civilization planning, public works, and highways.
I was wondering why this isn't placed in the survival forums though.

I was wondering why this isn't placed in the survival forums though.
When I first decided to share this, it was only a portion of screenshots. I later added more screenshots, and then the download came later. At this point though, I guess it would be more appropriate in the other forum.

So cool! You should do a proper youtube video of you walking through it/giving a tour or something - that would be pretty neat! (I guess downloading the world would achieve a similar affect, but it would be even cooler if you did like a guided tour - "And over here on your left is where it all began..." etc)
Awesome world! I think I'm gonna do something inspired off of this because I've seen multiple forums where people make their generated world truly their own, and I think that really brings a much more personal element to the game - you know, seeing your own structures all over the place and everything.
(Btw - what texture pack are you using for the screenshots? It's pretty :3)
I wish I could, but I'm not that great when it comes to making videos, and there's so much to show that I'd have a hard time deciding what to limit it too. I did post a video a few pages back of just one area and even that was sort of long. So I guess the first post sort of serves as an index for that purpose, even though I'd like to be able to do it if I felt I could do it some justice.
Speaking of the video I posted, I want to try and update the download eventually because that area is also more or less already beyond it's initial completion point (meaning established/built enough to be considered in a finished state even if I have more plans with it going forward). I downloaded my own file a while back and was shocked at how much it's changed, and how that location looked then. Just the walls and streets were up, basically. Now, it's transformed into a place more grand than even Ziland, which was my original, and largest and longest-running, location. I've added a sort of sewer system under the streets (not done), and made an airship/construction bay, which was by far the biggest thing I've ever mined out (it is also not done). There's many of other small changes too but those are the major ones.
That's not accounting for the other small changes strewn about, although Lindblum (formerly named Statham, and yes I've taken a lot of names from other games, especially Final Fantasy IX) is the major change, even if it's just one place.
I've been less involved with this though (to give you an idea, I am still playing 1.7.10) even though I still pick it up from time to time.
Oh, and the resource pack is a slightly personalized John Smith, although I'm not sure of the name or state of the texture pack today (I can only presume it's still going but I'm not sure).

I just found one of your posts today, downloaded your map, and am absolutely amazed! It really feels like a civilized world, when you are walking in the wilderness, and have a path and lampposts! The mountain post is incredible! I look forward to reading more, and visiting more in your map. Thank you for sharing it.
Hey, I've been a fan of this world ever since you posted it here! I was wondering around the other day and stumbled upon an untouched village not more than 200 blocks from Esta Gaza, at x-1030 y68 z830, and I was wondering if you even knew it was there!
Hey, I've been a fan of this world ever since you posted it here! I was wondering around the other day and stumbled upon an untouched village not more than 200 blocks from Esta Gaza, at x-1030 y68 z830, and I was wondering if you even knew it was there!
Wow, so inspiring to here something like that!
And yes, I didn't have to load UnMined to know exactly what village you were referring to, but here it is anyway, if it's the same one (the one on the bottom).
With the render distance I play on it'd be hard to miss, and actually that village has an interesting small history to it. Before my nephew and another player (who very rarely plays) had their own villages, farms, bases, or whatnot, they both were going to use that as the basis for their villages until we decided to build them their own from the start. It was more work, but it'd give them a closer location to the rest of the developed parts of the world. I always thought maybe I'd go back and do something with that village, but I have so many ideas I need to realize as finished projects as it is (and I haven't been updating here so much either).
Although.. is it... really untouched? The Blacksmith wasn't looted? That would be both impressive and surprising! Usually we check those on villages we come across.
Also, those rivers... those rivers have a history. A history of being bad news for horse travel when we seldom travel that area. I keep intending to put bridges up in some places...
Since all of my updates to this now to go the other thread, this thread seems a bit barren, but I still work on this! I've actually really, REALLY been getting stuff done with it lately. I therefore hope to have a much needed update soon.
Until then, my nephew and I went sight-seeing and exploring this last weekend, and I was trying some shaders (I opt to play without them normally but they make for pretty pictures), so here's just a few of random ones from the bunch of various locations in our world, two of which are relatively new and not even documented in the first post.
Finally, after way too much of putting it off, I updated the download! So, notably, all of my progress up until now on Lindblum can be seen firsthand. I'm still playing version 1.10.2, so I wouldn't recommend loading it in anything older (anything newer is fine).
I still need to edit the first post with entries for Lindblum and a few other minor places, but that's comparatively smaller stuff (although it's getting increasingly worse editing the first post; doing so just now to add the updated download made it take a very long time to reflect anything I was typing).
Now that the download was updated and I spent so much time working on Lindblum prior to that, I decided to take a break from it, and I finished Gulgan Vaal. It was always meant to be simple, with a lot of same-style houses, but I added some more variety to the overall finished look even though that's still true. With Acacia trees, as well as farms, I was able to give it some Green. Some lookout towers made entirely of logs and wood gave it some Brown to add color (strangely enough) alongside all the sand and sand stone color. I also added doors (originally I wasn't going to) and transported villagers from the nearby Esta Gaza, and made two Iron Golems.
With this, Gulgan Vaal is done, and will become the capital, modest as it may be like Arlia, of what will be the Eastern half of the country of Alexandria.
Also, updating the first post is nearly impossible now. I'm probably going to do what is essentially a re-write and reformat of it, stripping all but maybe half a dozen pictures at most from each location, as well as simplifying/shortening each description. The post is so long it literally 20+ seconds to even show what I type (I also blame the forums software or something but it's all I can do to work around it). I want to do the latter anyway to replace the one with the download so they both match, so I can change that when I do a third download update. That'll be enough of a description/pictures to showcase it, with the download being there for those who wish to see more.
Simply breathtaking! I like your style because it reminds me of mine - you build nice, small, detailed builds but without unnecesary details like many people!
Seeing this I'm wondering why I haven't make something like this? OFF TO WORK!
LOVE IT and I will keep watching this thread for updates and inspiration!
Idea: Make a cool creepy dungeon if you encounter easily accesible minecraft dungeon!
Being in survival helps keep the "unnecessary details" part more limited, but I've tried to add more as I've moved on to each new project. I do, however, prefer a little bit more of a simple build style too.
Here's a silence breaking update on my progress of Lindblum. I actually went and recorded a walk-through video, but it was outdated within a day (I've been working at this a LOT to try and get it to it's "initial completion" state), but I also decided that'd be better after it was finished, rather than after small changes.
But next best thing is, a picture says a thousand words.
So close if you only look at the land still in need of buildings (within the Blue box), but actually somewhat far away still. One of those buildings will likely be a rail station that runs to the West across the ocean there, which requires perhaps the biggest bridge I ever built. It will connect to another location I have planned/need (basically a massive farm). Both of those, however, are another two separate projects...
The Orange box still needs to be done. It's for the airship/construction yard, where another crane will be placed.
The Green box below it was undecided land until recently. I was either going to do the docks for the Western half (which ended up in the Purple box), or I was going to do a Horse stable, since I don't have a large one here yet. However, despite making the docks to the West, I decided to forgo horse stables (Ziland will hold them), and do yet another set of docks. This one will have another crane, identical to the one on the Eastern half, and have smaller docks, more for shipping and receiving for the construction bay, whereas the Western dock I made more for tourism and personnel traveling boats (although lighter shipments can still be done here like on the Leftern-most part of the other docks in the Northeast). Basically, if you look at the Northeast docks, you can see the split there too even though they're in the same area. I'm doing the same thing here, only they'll be split, because 1.) it made little sense to have larger shipping/receiving mostly intended for the construction bay all the way on the other side, and 2.) since it's more houses/commercial buildings right along the bay there, I didn't want the docks right there next to them, so this seemed better. Whew, sorry for the long description of one color area haha.
The aforementioned Purple area is docks. I simply have to litter them with crates/chests, and to build a docked ship. I do want a ship in this ocean, but I'll only be doing a docked one this time. I love the design of the other two ships I made too much and want to do it again, but alas, I built those two close together and in steps simultaneously, so it'd be near impossible, so I'll add variety and make it different. Also, I'm going to add a fork to the left where a third ship would dock or I am going to run a second one off the shore to the left (still within the Purple box), much smaller than the existing one. I'm undecided as to which.
The Red box is a placeholder entrance for the sewers and/or catacombs on this half of the city, which is an entire project on it's own, especially with how I plan to do the part near the ocean, as it'll have another entrance/exit there directly into the ocean.
Lastly, the Yellow box is a much smaller project than the size implies. To the left there's a tower that starts going into the mountain there, but stops. I'm simply going to connect it to my base, and also made the military/soldiers quarters here. There will be another single tower on the south to give view lookout of the ocean. I'll also eventually "fix" where the river failed to develop, connecting it to the ocean on this side too. That being said, I've decided I am not developing/terraforming this part of the mountain itself (as I did with the entire base). It will be left untouched mostly.
Whew, once I've all that done, I'll consider Lindblum finally in it's "initially completion" state (technically for the second time since it was once when the Eastern and then only half was done). I also have many other minors things to do around the area (like some mines, and also to finish the custom savannas I made by adding all the grass, which is tedious and boring since I need to use bonemeal but remove all the flowers).
This is incredible work, please continue. I always wanted to create a single world and progress through it, and threads like this inspires me but I think I lack patience to do it.
