Hello, Traffic here just posting some images of buildings from my server. I've built these ages ago (6 months to 1 year ago) but now I decided to show them to the world. These buildings are created on the "sea floor" on the bottom of a trench that is 235 blocks underwater, if your wondering.
BTW I created this legit however, all items and the map has been spawned in because this is a custom map, there is nothing natural except for the flatland generation 5000 blocks away from my buildings, and yes I did use creative to photograph this pictures.
Since I have cleared up some stuff lets get onto it, I would also like to say I was inspired to make this map ever since another minecrafter legorobot posted some videos of his underwater colony. I would like to dedicate this to his memory
Images from the underwater loading dock
Next to the loading dock is the sub (I'll post images of it later). Anyway I decided to build the storage rooms first to provide me with a large, airtight room allowing me resurface and resupply rather than using the little dirt mounts with ladders. As you can see in the picture the storage rooms have been completed and placed of the mold needed.
Burning the mold. We use a mold in underwater buildings to remove the water source blocks from the inside. You can use wood, dirt anything however wood is inflammable and renewable so its just easier to burn it instead of digging dirt.
2nd image of burning away the wooden mold. As you can see there was a leak due to a misplaced iron block, thankfully there was nothing major missing.
Image error Anyway this is what happened when we remodeled it from that big iron box to a massive well lit area with an awesome skylight looking towards the surface. This design took ages for me to perfect as originally I decided to have columns within this space but I opted for the massive space because the columns didn't fit nicely.
Image error , this was supposed to be before the "completed showcase". Anyway this is what happened after we burnt the wooden mold, a big, boring iron room.
An overhead picture of the loading dock, its quite large from the inside and especially large once you look at it from far away. You can also see the docking tube which connects the sub to the loading dock. I'm going to change it to make it look more tubish then rectanglish.
Just another overhead picture of the loading dock, nothing special however it does show a bit of the submarine to kind of give the whole building a perspective. The submarines massive
A 2nd angle shot of the loading dock. As you can see to the right 2 massive water curtains dominate the wall. They serve as an easy way to exit the buildings without using airlocks.
This is the hallway and entrance to the city Providence. I quite like how the ceiling and column system worked out, as before it was just a box with some windows.
This is really great. You should add a self destruct mechanism (make a backup if you blow it up). That could be a really nice map for exploration. I don't really like adventure maps but if you make it a little feel abandoned and derelict that would be awesome. Oh and put out a download link pl0x
(I love underground/underwater bases)
It wouldn't look very nice blow up :P, however I was thinking of making an underwater horror type map
Okay I admit I hacked the grass in.....still using my 1.7 knowledge of MC however I believe that you need grass to make grass and since my world is personally made without grass, I just had to hack it
I'd love to get a better look at the outside shots. Next time you take picture out of the water, could you please chug a potion of night vision before you do? It will make the entire image clear as day above water.
New update, rebooted my old MCedit 0.1.1 and took some pictures of the map + the current colony
The "front" of the colony, just the sub and the loading dock along with an under-construction shipwreck. To make the loading dock realistic I made hollow 3x3 columns so that its not a massive cub floating underwater.
This was taken behind the sub, here you can see the biodome.
Another overhead, except this is much clearer than taking pictures in MC
Now these pictures are going to give you the sheer scale of the map I have made, this was taken in front of the sub and behind it is a corner of the "rectangle" Challenger Deep trench. Those trench walls are 129 blocks high.
Another picture showing only 1 face of the trench wall
Here we are on top of the trench wall looking down upon the colony
Another image on top of the trench wall
Remember how I said there was 1 trench wall, well there are 2. This is a further 76 blocks higher than the first giving it a grand total of
205 blocks above the sea floor. The previous pictures up above were taken on the edge of the first trench wall.
This is the edge of the map, your basically looking at the full height of the playable MC world 256 blocks I think
This is the full challenger deep map in all its glory, the map is 2362 wide x 3062 length by 252 tall...essentially your looking at a map size of 1 822 575 888 blocks close to 2 billion blocks (also 27 810.3 chunks). We only inhabit on the edges, one of the goals to the server is to make a super fast railway to the other edge of the map.
Some facts I found out.
It takes 10m of flying to reach from 1 end to the other.
MCedit could only calculate (create blocks) at max 200x200x256 before crashing
This map is my pride and joy of other 1 month of boring rendering.
I think this has to be the biggest map ever made using MCedit...not sure somebody prove me wrong
Started to get back into underwater building, going to build my next big project which is a giant warehouse to grow the resources we need (wood, food) to be able to kickstart the main city. For now only 2 pictures
Oh and I discovered the joys of enchanting helmats currently using a lvl 2 aqua infinity

Never thought that until know, must try it thanks

Completed underwater dome, burnt the wood away

Yeah my friend suggested that to me, I shall
"Look at me still talking when there's science to do. When I look out there it makes me glad I'm not you."
Images from the "outside". I used some night vision to brighten up the image from my usually moody graphics
