Howdy! I'm trying to build a castle/kingdom but I'm not the best builder. I build with a trial and error method, taking way to long to build something nice.
I'd like to show what I did so far, hoping for some feedback that could inspire me to move on from what I have. It took me a good amount of hours to build this, allthough it isn't much, I do like it.
(Building in creative mode, but all by hand)
Here some pictures:
Entrance gate + gate towers
Gate from the other side + the first bit of wall, and a fountain
Different angle. Ofcourse the other tower still needs the wall build.
Inside of the gate tower. The "mechanism" to open/close the gates. Imagine a hulkman pulling a chain to move it
So what do you think? What could I improve, or what should I try to do next (besides building the wall).
If it's any good I'd like to update this thread to show off further improvements.
For a theme, I think Iam going for a kinda medieval theme, where the most importent buildings are sturdy structures mostly made out of stone, and then building of lower ranks, having less stone the lower the rank is. Like, peasant houses are more wood based, where lordmanors are more stone based. And a warehouse having a bit more wood, and blacksmiths having more stone.
I think I should indeed plan out where what goes, as it would look silly to have a street filled with different looks of houses. It should be more 'district' based I guess.
Then for buildings I have in mind so far: (any tips on what to build are appreciated)
Houses (different kinds for different types of people)
Tavern
Warehouse
Stables
Blacksmith
Church/Citadel
Castle
This is gonna take some time..
Ah well, I think it'll be worth it in the end.
Thanks for the responses. Keep them comming
As of now I'm busy roughly planning out what goes where, trying to leave some space for improvements/new stuff.
I'll definitely try to use all the tips where I see fit
Edit:
Here is a picture of the rough planning I did:
I put down the main roads.
The thin building is gonna be a stables with a bit of land for the horses to graze on.
Next to that is a tavern/inn.
other side of that road will be a blacksmith and a library/alchimist shop, and the small square of wood will be a well, with a little 'park' next to it.
The giant square is gonna be the marketsquare with some selling stands.
Top of the picture is the church.
Between the church and the fountain a district for average wealth citizens
and to the bottom left, from the tavern to around half the marketsquare a high wealth district.
This leaves me with a large 'corner' gap on the top left of the marketsquare. There is gonna be the castle, or maybe just a very large lordsmanor, not sure about that yet.
Most of the building are square for the moment, but this could change while designin them, it's more an idea of 'where stuff goes.
I like it so far however, I would agree you do need quite a bit more block varietys. But other than that the project looks like it's coming along greatly.
