Hello everyone! Long time viewer and first time posting.
Anyhoo, I noticed that a lot of people would make fantastic creations and I figured I would share my own since I don't really see much with regards to map art since its such a huge feat to take (assuming you do it in creative or survival). I must note that it's not entirely finished right now, I want to put down grass all around it so it stands out more and doesn't blend so much with the natural geography.
Well here ya go, here's what it looks like on the map.
Here's what it looks like from an aerial view.
And what the area looked like prior to me leveling the whole thing out and doing the whole thing.
Needless to say, it was more difficult planning than anything since I needed a lot of space since each "pixel" needs to be an 8x8 in whatever material. And since I had a limited palette of colors, I had to improvise a bit with everything. Certainly height of where the blocks are determines the shading of the color, but fortunately it worked out enough.
Let me know whatcha think and if someone else has done something similar, I would love to see what they did and compare! Thanks for viewing!
:biggrin.gif: Thanks everyone! I think it took me roughly 10 hours to make, give or take. Most of the time was really clearing out the whole area and getting the whole area set up. Once I started laying down the pixels, I noticed that I had to keep a reference between all of them, so that's why you see all the black dots (obsidian). I hope that this motivates people to create their own work (assuming no one has done anything like this), cause I would love to see other works too.
As for the download, I'll have to DL it since it's on my server and figure out how to post it for anyone wishing to get a good glimpse of it.
Again, thanks for the positive comments, getting me back into the creative spirit to try top this :smile.gif:
Yes, it is possible, but it is quite limiting on what kind of sprites since I only have various shades of green (grass and tree tops), brown (wood), different shades of gray (any stone block and ores), red (lava), blue (water) and yellow (sand). I find that NES sprites work best as motivation to work with since they are basic in design and don't require a lot of colors, not to mention they are very open to improvising.
Actually that is a great idea! It really only requires about 3 different colors to work, I actually will try that, I even have a great spot for it. I think the bottom right section of that desert that is wide open seems perfect. Might have to surround the sprite with grey for it stick out better, but it should be doable. Thanks for the idea!

congrat sir for awesome build!
I've sprited some things in the past too,
but I never thought that they'd show up on the map like that. =O
A+
