Anything to do with WoW? I love it! :smile.gif: this looks wonderful , i commend you on your hard work :biggrin.gif: I cannot wait to see northrend. Are you also doing Vashj'ir? >.>
You can see an untextured version of Northrend here.
Vashj'ir might exist as a separate instance, since it's so deep. There's also the issue of low visibility, since Minecraft underwater is very dark and murky. One option is to simply fake it, and not put water anywhere except at the surface, but that would require some special mods.
Wow... no, not WoW, just wow. Hah. But really, this is flat-out awe-inspiring. And really, everyone saying that he cheated not making it by hand - so what? It's still amazing.
Although... aren't northern barrens a tad too green?
There is only one picture that can some up this thread. Need to pull it out.
DO WANT. Will you be able to release it for download when it's all finished?
I'm just thinking of how epic this is going to turn out if it goes as planned for the rest of the world. Storm Peaks, Ulduar, Icecrown, the troll kingdoms, Black Temple, Serpentshrine Cavern, Tempest Keep, all in one Minecraft map. Going to be the most awesome thing ever completed in the history of Minecraft. And that's coming from someone who doesn't even like WoW anymore :tongue.gif:.
Using a program to make it is kind of like using a game genie/gameshark though :sad.gif:
creating programs to do it for him is a lot more impressive to me than doing it by hand. I'd find it hard to respect a shut-in who'd spend the time necessary to do that by hand
Tthis is great, but you didnt REAALLY make it if its all generated. Thats just my opinion, you ciuldve done it by hand , wand and voxel sniper :/ but then again thats just how i wouldve done it great job at wrtig the generators ffor the map.
why are some tools cool but others aren't? Sure he could have limited himself, but maybe he values his time
Hmm... now that I think about it, I can see some serious problems with this when it is implemented into an actual map. Three problems, at least.
1 - The dirt changing to grass. There are so many details on the map that have dirt next to grass, such as the paths in Mulgore and the Barrens landscape. If grass spreads, the dirt will be practically ruined.
2 - Leaves. They'll disintegrate in the trees without any wood blocks nearby. There are some pretty epic trees (Nordrassil, Teldrassil) and it would be a shame if EVERY SINGLE TREE that was of a decent size was ruined by leaves being destroyed and falling off.
3 - Lava. Not as much of an issue as the other two, but there are some areas, like in Stonetalon and Ashenvale, where lava is almost directly next to wooden structures. This could result in them being burnt, and in the case of Ashenvale, could result in massive forest fires that would ruin the place completely.
How do you think you're going to be able to evade these obstacles? It seems like limitations in Minecraft's engines and mechanics are really going to be an inhibitor on this project at a second glance :sad.gif:

There's a single bit inside the chunk file which indicates whether leaves were "placed by a user" or "naturally formed." If this bit is set, the leaves won't disintegrate.

It's not mapping biomes atm, otherwise the grass would be the right shade. That will require a client mod, however.

It takes about 30 minutes to generate Kalimdor, which consists of 350 region files totaling over 1.5 GB.

The detail on the map render looks incredible.
Is this going to be released as a downloadable map?
I would love to be able to load it up in Creative Single Player and explore.

WorldGuard will prevent this from happening.

Now, make it into an Adventure Map & I will praise you forever :biggrin.gif:
