It's been almost two months since an update, and while I haven't spent very much time playing Minecraft those past two months, I have made progress. Specifically on the castle, and a whole new building. The new building is a college and mage guild all in one. The entire structure is built up on an island of sorts and access is restricted to a single bridge. The college is incomplete, currently missing a library of any sort.
Glad to see you're still working on this! It's been a while since I last checked it out - lots of new stuff added, all of it awesome. I really like the college. The curvy bridge leading into it is neat, too. That aerial view really brings home how big this project has gotten. Have another +rep.

Thank you very much. The curved bridge was quite a challenge, but I think it was worth the work. I also intended for this to be a big project, well, at least bigger than Oakcrest, but over time I seem to keep expanding the area I'm using. The college is a good example of that, since I never planned to build over where it is. Thank you again.
Only a few new pictures this time around, but far more exciting for some of you, I bet, is you can now download Vallagron and explore it for yourself. That's right, the map contains Ivy River, Oakcrest, and a few other side projects I have yet to showcase. Keep in mind that due to the size of this map, the download is 1.3GB.
1.3 GB?! Did you remember to delete the backup files from the Anvil/1.2 update? I thought MY map was heavy at 180 MB after compressing.
Regardless, I'll be sure to check it out. This is my favorite medieval build (disregarding personal bias for my own stuff ).
You know what, I didn't even realize that. I'll clean up the file, re-upload, and switch the download link as soon as I can. So thank you for that information.
Rapidshare is very slow at this moment... at least 5hours required to download the file
I'd like to see you industrial area. Could you split the map into some schematics? (if you have world edit installed you just have to select the area and then type //<schematic save mce myschematicfilename
That's unfortunate. I would have used Mediafire if it weren't for the 200mb limit.
I don't have World Edit, but I do have MCedit. If that works with World Edit, (because I have no idea if it does or not), I could make some schematics, bundle them together, and put that on Mediafire.
MCEdit and WorldEdit both save .schematic files. The first one is an editor, the second one is a mod that can be used ingame. It adds nice features to flatten area, repaint textures, remove blocks, fix water and lava, add and remove snow, etc...
Alright, well I'll try to put together some schematics that cover the city.
.........wait you made all this with out world edit? My god you just became that much more amazing.
Download is taking forever @.x an hour for about every 10%, and I just has to restart it as the DL failed.
Yup, I have never used world edit, so thank you. I realize Rapidshare isn't the best site, but I wouldn't know which site is better to use. Obviously, it would be nice to use Mediafire, but they have a 200MB file limit, so that site is out. I'll keep looking for a different site, and if I find one, or someone else knows of one, I'll switch the download as soon as possible.
Wow! I admire your use of irregular shapes to make everything look very natural. Some people just have a knack on this... (I myself tend to build too symmetrical and regularly.)
The houses and the ships look great. So detailed.
The only thing I don't like that much is the texture of the stones you used for the castle. I prefer smooth textures for big surfaces.
Checked this out in game. I see why the map size is so big. It took me forever to get from Ivy River to Oakrest! I really like all the tucked away stairs and doorways you incorporate in you architecture, as well as the well thought details like the cut off logs around the lumberjack's hut in Oakrest or the rails and lava "smelt" in the foundries and industrial areas. The big water chamber below the Oakrest cathedral was pretty cool, too.
I think the harbor looked a little crowded, especially since many of the ships were cut'n'paste. I don't think it would be an issue if there was more variety in the ships, but with so many of the same crowded together, I really notice the clone effect.
I know it's been awhile but I'm back with a progress update and pictures for I am still working on this project. Most of what I've done has been work on the sewers underneath the city. I'm not done, not even close, but it's a start. There are now a few entrances, along with some working storm grates. The new market has had a largely cosmetic overhaul, and the farm has been extended with more wheat and carrots and potatoes as well. I've rebuilt par tof the merchant harbour, so the ships are now missing until I re-add them. The cathedral graveyard now has a crypt which hides a secret entrance to the thieves hideout. And lastly, I added a dungeon type area under the college.
At the time of this post the Ivy River download is unavailable. I'm currently uploading the file to Mediafire, though it will be in three parts. Each is 200MB or smaller, so hopefully, despite being three parts, it'll still be faster to download than Rapidshare. Check back later today for the new download to be up.

It's quite the trek between the two places and thank you for the kind words. I tried to incorporate as many details as I could think of. I forgot all about that chamber underneath Oakcrest. I never finished it. Eventually I'll go back and add the staircase it was suppose to have.
I'm rebuilding a good amount of the merchant harbour so I'll be sure to add some variety next time the ships go in.

But otherwise... Absolutely gorgeous!
Thank you, I've been trying to make the buildings stand out somewhat from each other and the ships have been a real challenge for me. But I've done my best to add what I can to them.
This is just to much for words. Sadly however the three files for the download don't want to properly join and keeps giving me a corrupt file.
Have you tried drop box?
That's weird, I downloaded all three as a test and it worked fine for me. What program are you using and what exactly are you doing? If anyone else can share their download experience so I know if this is happening to everyone or not would greatly help.
Thank you.

I'm seriously considering doing just that, and thank you.
Thank you, I try to make it look good.
Thank you, and that's the goal to eventually reach.
