A large tropical island discovered twelve years ago by woman explorer Trisha Glendale whom the island was later named after. The island quickly proved to hold an enrichment of resources within its thick forests and mighty hills. But also found to have a large abundance of Redstone ore, a strange substance that could hold an electrical charge to power machinery, yet is found rarely in other locations. But here it was plentiful and within the first year the island’s first town was built as more people arrived not just to work and mine its resources, but also to live.
The full detailed Plot can be found on my Minecraft Blog The Iron Block
This map was generated using WorldPainter then edited and tweaked with WorldEdit in SPC.
This map will also be using the mod Custom NPC's to add an extra element. Note this nod is NOT REQUIRED to play the map. It will play just fine with out. The mod is just to add a little extra -non vital- tidbits here and there.
You arrive to the island on your ship, docking at this small town. It's quiet, mut perhaps it will hold some clues to the task at hand.
A mighty river cutting though the land, it splits the island in two. A bridge will be made to span across it.
Paradise In The Sky (Survival)
Temp name, any better ideas feel free to post!
This is a map that I had started WAYYYYY back in beta 5, slowly working on it on and off adding more and more islands over time. It was put out when it was still small with not much to it, but comments suported the idea of making it bigger, with more lands to explore. That is just what I am doing!
This is a survival map of floating islands over the void. Your job? Survive! I'll be setting up challenges/goals to complete. Resorces will be scares but other islands may hold valuable items.. or hidden dangers.
When finished there will be
Biome Themed Islands
Various Styled/sized islands further out (some with caves and over hangs and such)
Hidden treasures
Dungeon islands
Traps
A recent changed removed the large sea that these islands were originally over. I had planed to have a normal version of this with the sea, then a 'hard core' version using the void, but that was scraped in favor of just using the void as I was gaining issues with just the OMG number of squid that were mass spawning and taking up entity space's that were keeping mobs from spawning -at all- even on hard. As much as I would have loved to keep the lovely sea, it had to go.
These islands are made purely with WorldEdit in SPC's.
The island you spawn on. One tree, some tall grass, and a single waterfall to start your venture. A clue where to start will be added.
Challenges:
Make a Home
Make a Wheat farm at least 9x9 in size
Make a Mellon farm of at least 10 mellon's
Make a Pumpkin Farm of at least 10 Pumpkins
Make a Reed farm of at least 20 fully grown Stalks
Build a bridge at least 2 wide connecting ALL large islands together
Build a Sky port
Build at least 2 air ships (any kind/style/size)
If you have suggestions for any others please do tell! YOUR challenge may very well show up!
Here is a tutorial video on how I made these islands. I was going to do part 2 of the video in 1.8. But world edit has some bugs in 1.8 that I wasn't aware of before I updated and dropped my 1.7 version. Pretty much it's just a bug with masking. If I say wanted to turn stone to grass like you see on the islands, it would instead only place coblestone. I would have to place all the grass by hand or do a mass replace, but that would make all the grass even all over and not look natural.
While I could just tell it to replace the cobble to grass and resume (that is what I'm doing to finish the map).. making a video and showing off that methood wouldn't be the proper way, and when the bug gets fixed? I'd have to redo it yet again. So I have to wait like everyone else.
If you'd like to see more shots of these maps, feel free to ask!
The Crystal Cavern (Survival)
Notice: I am planing on re-making this map. As nice as it is I want something more out of it and with the new heights added to minecraft (this was made before such) I want to utilize that more and truly offer some expansive cave networks and hidden areas rather than the current open area it is now.. That said I'll be releasing the current version soon for people to enjoy and play on.
You're just doing what you always do, mine down into caves looking for the earths spoils. Not much luck this time, perhaps just a little deeper. Soft steps behind you catch your attention... darn it a creeper, it must have come from one of the darker caves. Moving forward, perhaps you can find another cave around it. No such luck, the tunnel stopped at a dead end... You could start mining on... but that creeper is getting closer...wait... is that two of them?
Just your luck they spot you and start after you on their small legs. You raise your sword in defense but it's not enough... one goes off and that triggers the other! The blast threw you back or.. no... you're falling! You tumble down into a deep ravine landing in a small lake of water... not far from some spilling lava. Rocks start falling from above, you need to move!
You slip into a cave but the rocks keep tumbling down deeper and deeper you go until!
You awaken on the cave floor... you must have been knocked out. Looking back you find the cave had completely collapsed.... darn creepers! What more can go~
You turn around and your jaw nearly hits the ground... what... what is this?!
A vast cavern with strange glowing stones, are those large mushrooms and a....tree? It was a place of wonder... but as you step out of the cave you spot movement. It seems the creatures of the night find this to be a nice place as well. With careful planning and thinking... you may be able to make something out of this. Only one way to find out!
The Crystal Cavern is a large cave with a winding lava river though it and is speckled in glowstone. But don't let that fool you, mobs can still spawn. This will be a hard press survival challenge as you are completely inclosed, daylight wont be able to save you here. Just your cunning and wits. The starting area will have more glowstone then others to keep mob count down in the area when you first begin.
There are hidden dungeons and treasures scattered through out, some of these you will have to vencher into in order to get some of the needed items for the challenges.
Water may look scarce on this map, but there are hidden pockets of water scattered through out the land that you can try to find by digging around along with a few waterfalls hidden here and there. You will need to find them if you wish to make an infinite water spring as you wont be able to make such right off.
Aside the cavern, and dungeons, there are no other cave systems on this map, I may change that in future however, we'll see.
You will be free to dig around where ever you wish. There is a bedrock wall around all the edges so there shouldn't be a risk of leaving the map. If you dig down you'll find normal Minecraft ore deposits that you can freely mine, though all the ore types can be found somewhere in the cavern.
This is still very much a WIP
Current Planned Challenges:
Make a Home
Make a small lake of water
Make a wheat Farm
Make a tree farm
Make a melon farm
Make a pumpkin farm
Make a reed/suger cane farm
Make a glowstone wall at least 40 long 2 high.
Make a large muchroom Farm of both mushroom types
Make at least 6 bridges spanning the lava.
Make a railway system (bonus if it tours the cavern)
Make a large Fountain
Make 10 Pistons
Make a Enchanting Table
Make a Brewing Stand
Make 5 Cauldron's
Texture Pack
All screnshots are done using a texture pack I'm designing myself. It's about 90% done with the terrain and around 20% for the items. It will be released under the name Glendale Texture pack as it was originally for my adventure map but ultimately it became a general pack.
Thanks. The homes and buildings are fully built out too with rooms and all. No small square builds, I don't care for such. Some of them will be based off memory of RL homes I've lived in. So should be fun!
Nice i love it!
is th river naturally made? or you made it yourself?
its generated would you like to share the seed? xd
The whole island for Glendale was made with WorldPainter, so even if you had the seed you would have nothing at all like what I show :tongue.gif: The island was made with world painter, then a lot in in game editing using SPC and world edit. Yes the river was made myself. :3
Also make sure with your island map you come up with PLENTY of challenges :smile.gif:
So we have a nice long list of things to accomplish, But don't make it too easy for us :smile.gif:

Haha I plan to! You'll start out on a smaller island and have to use what you have to get to the bigger ones. Resources will be hard to come by until you work your way to other islands and even then you may have to do some searching! One goal will be to make a bridge at least two wide connecting ALL of the islands! That means you wont be able to mine away an island completely.
I do wonder how to manage animals if I want any at all... I tested it by spawning them in and nearly all of them fell and went for a swim below.
I am at the moment waiting for worldpainter to update it's code for the new biomes as I want to change the seed to this world so I can have a few themed islands in their biomes (yes even a mushroom one) and sense world painter allows you to see the biomes as your changing the seed, it's easy to set them up :3

Sounds great!
Also just leave the animals to spawn on the islands as they normally would, once a player gets to the island they can fence some off :smile.gif:
Change water to void to 1 - Kill off animals, to ensure more spawn. 2 - so that the player doesnt just end up going for a swim with no way back up...

Ehh the issue with that is that there are -SO MANY- maps that just have the land over the void. I was thinking that well.. you're over this vast sea, if you fall, you may have no way back up... you'd have to drown yourself or think creatively to return back to the land. Plus one objective I was thinking of adding was making a shipping dock + boat. There is -no ore- in the water, just sand leading down to bedrock... sand you could use for other means. ^.-
But I could make a 2nd version of this that lacks the water below.

Well yeah, that way you will be a tad more careful, and plenty of people are like "**** fell to the void" than if your floating in the water "i don't wanna drown myself..."
So yeah 2 versions would be good, each one would work well.
For void - Make a Dock + Air Ship :smile.gif:
Only problem with water is animals wont die.

I plan on using the kill all command before releacing it. that means every animal will be killed. after that... I could spawn a few on a couple of the bigger islands. It seems in 1.9 animals are smarter when it comes to avoiding falling off places. I had a sheep on a 4x4 block on one map and it never fell off even as mobs spawned on the same chunk.
These are being made in 1.8 with SPC, (it's not out for 1.9) and animals are wondering off the islands.. so that issue may be fixed with 1.9.

Ah ok than. Didn't know the whole 1.9 smarter animals thing lol
Only annoying thing is that animals take ages to spawn now lol

They don't spawn at all in 1.9. They are pre existing in new chunks. Once there gone there gone. ^^; Although in 1.8 sense the breading code isn't there they DO still respawn, but it seems they do only when the chunks reload.

Yeah I have noticed that. In 1.8 they take a LONG time to re-spawn...
Better off releasing for 1.8 than? Wait and see if they change the code before doing a 1.9?
Or just spawn some in, than the people just have access to those, use them wisely?

There not changing the code in 1.9, it's already how they want it where animals don't respawn at all anymore, you must bread to get new ones or explore new chunks
That is what I am thinking. Sense animals in 1.9 are a lot smarter it seems when it comes to avoiding stuff (lava, long falls) to once I'm done, do the command to mass kill all entities and then spawn in a few here or there. A goal may be to make an animal farm.
I may also hide a few... thinking Legend of Zelda how think it's Majoras Mask where there's a hidden cow in a hole XD

But yeah an animal farm challenge would be good (Oh and a seperate challenge for a Chicken Farm/Coup (extra challenge - Chicken coop is set up so all eggs get bought down to a collection spot "auto-harvest" style))
How long off you reckon it will be?
