About two weeks ago I started this project, right around the time that I had discovered what redstone could do in large quantities and with the right know-how (Just started playing a little before that too, so I'm still a noob). After reading the redstone circuitry wiki and doing some experimenting, I picked Tic-Tac-Toe as my first project and large redstone creation and decided to make it on my friend's multiplayer server.
Through many late nights, working 100% by myself, I was able to create a successful working game. I was so proud of it I made this account just to show it off :biggrin.gif: And yes, I know Tic-Tac-Toe has been made in Minecraft before, but I assure you I didn't even peek at what mode those other designs work. It's all my own stuff.
Here it is. It's titled Void-Tac-Toe because the loser of the game gets dropped out below the map into the vast empty space we call the void.
The entrance to the game. X is blue team, O is orange team.
This is where the player is locked in and the game is played for the Orange Team. The 3x3 button grid is where a player selects what spot to put their mark. There are lights to indicate if it is your turn and if you have won. Off-screen to the left is the indicator for a tie-game and a universal game reset button.
The glass is taken out from below the player for the game. I was going to have TNT drop the player into the pit, but now with the 1.6 update I can put a hatch there once my server is updated so a player can be dropped when they lose without resetting TNT every time.
The game board during the day.
The game is usually played at night so the lights can be seen easier. This is an example of the board in the middle of a match.
This is what I named the "brains" of the game. Every action that is done goes through here first. It is the most important part in making the game work. This is located mostly out of sight, underneath the ground and under the game board itself, and extends well behind where I'm standing to take the picture.
This is what you'd see if you walked behind the game board. These pathways lead to the back of the board so that the lights on the other side can be controlled. The paths are color coded so I know whether it leads to a light for X, O, or both.
This area determines if a player has won yet. The bottom (blue) floor tells the "brain" if X has won, so it can send a signal back up and drop the loser to their death. Same thing goes for Orange and O on the second floor. The third floor detects if there is a tie so that the players can be notified and reset the game.
This is one last overview of the whole project (excluding the "brain" underground), with the players standing on the left and the board in the middle.
This was really more of a learning experience than anything for me, and I really don't expect it to get more than a few plays. But nonetheless, it has been tested in full and will be working perfectly once i get the hatches set up below the players.
The design is sloppy and unorganized, but I'm proud of it and I'm open to comments and suggestions. If anyone has any further questions on how it works, just ask :cool.gif:
One last thing: I'm looking for a new idea for my next project. Something simpler than a computer but a bit more challenging than this. Preferably another simple game. Any ideas?
Dropping someone into the Void sounds pretty harsh, but eh, I'm assuming there's ways to get back.
Show us the game in progress--make a video, perhaps, from start to finish. I'm curious to see how it would work, not from a technical viewpoint, but from the player's stance.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Current project: Bridge Bay, a subtropical city with a bay that has bridges. Check it out HERE!

I'll add a link to a video in a few days when I get around to making one with a second player. Probably right after my server supports 1.6 and I can add the hatches.
make a calculator (which ive made) a minecart chest system would be cool like u press a button for a diamond sword and it comes on a minecart! :biggrin.gif: :biggrin.gif:
Amazing work.
Do you know what the size of the area the game stands is ?
As it is now, the game takes up 67 x 155 block square
Thanks to everyone for the positive feedback :biggrin.gif: I'm still very open to new suggestions on what to do next. I thought of doing connect 4, until I realized that I would need redstone torches to be 2 different colors so the players could tell which were theirs and which aren't. It's a shame too, because that sounded fun :sad.gif:
Battle Ship? You would probably end up having the mother of all button switch-boards, though.
The players might need fly mod, or you'd have a wall of ladders to navigate.
Other option is to use 1 or 2 buttons to cycle through the available spots.
My mind has been blown sir... I have only dreamed of such creations. You are the reason I no longer feel entitled to put the "Redstone god" icon in my signature anymore. This is just beyond words...

THIS is an awesome idea that I was also thinking about few days ago. I'm just starting to plan it out, but I'm pretty sure it will be my next major project.
Meanwhile, I decided to separate the time between my larger projects with smaller ones. So, over the past couple days I started a block-paper-scissors (hehe, block instead of rock for minecraft :wink.gif: ) machine that I juiced up to increase the challenge a bit more. Screenshots of what it includes are below. I'm building it next to the Void-Tac-Toe game, so when I release the map they both will come together. The game chooses a winner based on three rounds of play. Should be finished in a day or two, as it is just an easy project that gives me a break before i get to (probably) battleship.

Erm, I want to, but I'll need to do some research as to how one can share a world from a multiplayer server.

Stay tuned...
