Hey folks. This is my first big project I've done, and the first thing I've ever posted (by way of my own creations, that is). I'm interested in opinions and criticism (Good or Bad).
Oh, and this was all done by hand. I don't use mods or edits of any kind; this is completely, 100% legitimate. The stone/glass/dirt took a long freaking time to get.
Here it is from a distance. It's a big 'biodome', like a few others have done, But this is unique in the support structure, I think. A lot of them are just floating. Or just domes over regular earth.
This is a view from one of the legs; this isn't a small thing.
A view of the contour of the legs. I used Minecraft structure planner to plan out the sphere and the legs; it took a long time to figure out a curve I was happy with. And of course these are all at 45 degrees, so I had to figure out how to make them look okay.
And finally, the inside. Nothing special; a few trees, a man-made lake and a little (ugly and ill planned) shack. The main value of this thing is the outside aesthetic; the inside was secondary to me and so I sorta rushed it.
view from the top of the one leg. In the background, you can see the unfinished harbor and gate for the town I'm currently working on; that will be the next set of uploads I make around here, but that will be in a while.
Opinions/criticisms welcomed! I'd love to hear what people think of this thing.

How do you get up there when the legs start to become two blocks steep?
If you look REALLY closely at the first picture, you will notice some ladders. There is only one entrance at the top, and it's up that one leg (hence why there's a 'slot' taken out of the ring).
Thanks for all the feedback, guys! The idea of one from the nether is actually really cool, but I wouldn't feel right unless I made the legs out of Obsidian, and for someone who doesn't use hacks... Yeah. problem. Haha.

I really love the arching legs! They look almost graceful somehow. Very well done.
It might be visually interesting to extend the legs up to the vertical asymptote above the sphere (should you have the time and interest).
I'd also be interested in seeing you build some sort of ant colony-like within the dirt of the sphere. Narrow tunnels and a couple of small caves, open to the glass.

Former admin for the one and only VoxelBox, still looking for where I put that chest, forever punching wood.
Thanks for all the feedback guys! I didn't expect it to get so much. :smile.gif: The idea to make one that's a nether version is interesting to me, but it would just be so much work to make the legs obsidian... Perhaps one day.

In fact, Oculus is Latin for 'eye'. It has nothing to do with numbers. :wink.gif:

One of my friends who I tend to play MC with said the same thing. I played WoW for a while, but alas, it was after Oculus.
