I've tried installing it whilst blocking Anti-Spyware and it worked, but as soon as I enabled Norton Anti-Spyware it deleted the screensaver from the list.
I went through Norton and found a link to this site to submit applications to their white-list so that they dont delete it.
If you could do this then I'll finally be able to have a sreensaver that isn't $H*T.
Your screensaver (from what I saw before Norton deleted it) is awsome!
BTW I'm running on Win7 and obviously Norton Internet Security, so if anyone has any quick ways to get Norton to allow the screensaver or to bypass it then suggestions are greatl appriciated.
Thanks

I am not going to give out personal information to Norton. Which is required for the whitelist. It also by the looks of it would need to be submitted Every time i update it, meaning upto 4 week wait before they whitelist(If they bother to add it to the whitelist) each time i release. Norton is a horrible over the top protection system. There are better ones out there that are not evil.
Even though its evil, there should be an ability to whitelist applications locally. There generally is with decent anti-virus/spyware software.
P.S The reason that it will delete the screensaver is because it has to install its self into the Windows\System32 directory (So the screensaver chooser can see it). So Norton stupidly thinks everything thats placed there is going to be bad.
P.S2 If Norton has a quarantine then id check to see if its there. If so you may be able to tell Norton that the file is safe.
Thanks for the quick reply, fair enough bout the white-listing then.
I've only got Norton because this is a new laptop and I got 60Days free so I'm not gonna watse free protection (or that's what at thought at the time, that may be changin soon).
I have looked and looked for the local white-listing but have not been able to find it :sad.gif:
[If Norton has a quarantine then id check to see if its there. If so you may be able to tell Norton that the file is safe.]
As for the quarantine file, I'll look for that now and if i do/do not find it I'll edit this post.
Thanks
PJP
EDIT: WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO I finally found the quarentine list on Norton, and for anyone else who suffers with having Norton: You have to click on the file then Options and Restore it and make sure once you click Restore that the box that says 'Exclude this risk from future scans' is ticked. After that, just run the .exe as you would normally and it works fine. THANK YOU Stucuk your a :biggrin.gif:
EDIT2: 2 Things I would suggest for the next update, on the Minecraft Logo Settings tab:
1If you would put a line in explaining that you can add to the MINECRAFT and also that you have to right click the pixel to erase it (took me bout 10mins to try to get rid of a pixel I made accidently before knowing I could edit it)
2 A way to speed up how fast the blocks drop on the that one (you may already be able to do this and I have just missed it, if so could you put some more instructions please).
Thanks

but is it only my computer that freezes whith it when the harddrive is sent to sleep after 30 minutes?
If you have the "Next Random Screensaver Duration" set and are using any mode other than "Random" then set the "Next Random Screensaver Duration" to 0. There is a bug in 1.7 which can cause the screensaver to freeze if "Next Random Screensaver Duration" is set and the mode isn't random. This is fixed in 1.8.
Btw, you should never set your harddrive to sleep. Can't remember why but i think that its meant to lower your harddrives lifetime or something... Just remember its not meant to be recommended.

1. Would a tooltip on the Minecraft Logo Editor Image Thingy(Yes i suck at making up names) work? Tooltips are the lines of text which popup when you move the mouse over things.
2. You can lower the Random Fall Chance, which speeds up how often blocks are chosen to fall, but there currently isn't any actual speed setting.
P.S When it comes to Anti-Virus/Trojan/Etc id recommend not paying any money. You can get very good free ones. Things like ASquared, Spybot S&D, AVG, Commodo, etc.
Bit of a problem with the new version. Norton SONAR is automatically deleting ssmci.scr every time I try to use the screen saver after installing. This didn't happen with 1.8, could it have something to do with it detecting fullscreen programs?
EDIT: I got it to work by going into system32 and using Norton file insight to manually tell Norton to trust it.
All it does is ask for the Foreground Window's handle, which it can then use to get the windows size(If there is a window open).
Norton is an over protective system which loves false positives (Proberly as it helps with sales if it makes people more paranoid), so i have no doubt that people will continue to have problems with it wrongly deleting the screensaver in the future.
Incase anyone is interested:
function FullScreenAppRunning : Boolean;
var
WND : HWND;
Rect : TRect;
begin
Result := False;
WND := GetForegroundWindow;
if WND = 0 then Exit;
GetWindowRect(WND,Rect);
Result := ((Rect.Right-Rect.Left) = GetSystemMetrics(SM_CXSCREEN)) and ((Rect.Bottom-Rect.Top) = GetSystemMetrics(SM_CYSCREEN));
end;

Sorry it's taken me a while to reply, had LOADS of revision and homework to do.
Yes I think a tooltip thingy would be sufficient, and thanks for adding a speed setting. :smile.gif:
Just downloaded V1.9 ( for you AGAIN)
Also, you got any estimated projections for when you'll have mobs in the screensaver? I'd love to have the new wolf on my screensaver
PJP
EDIT: I've just run the install, and gone to change the settings, but when i click the settings after selecting the screensaver, it just flashes and nothing happens. (Also, this time it is NOT Norton messing it up, I've checked the quarentine (spelt that wrong I'm 99% sure)). I AM BLIND, it just hadn't opened it on screen(it was minimised).

Depends on what you expect.
If you just expect a mob to be centred on the screen looking at you (Or where the camera rotates around a mob) then it shouldn't take long (1 Week Max from when i start).
if you want a mob which walks about on a non-existent land then that would take longer (No clue how long as i have never tried).
if you want a mob which can walk/jump about a Minecraft Level then that will take alot longer.
But before i implement mobs, i will make it so the screensaver can unpack files from Minecraft. Im not going to re-supply every Minecraft image(Which would be needed so you can have skinned mobs, etc). Also will proberly make it so that it can read Texture Packs, so whatever texture packs are installed on Minecraft could then be used with the screensaver without having to do anything other than select an option. So in the future any screensaver mode which needs anything other than the terrain.png image(Which will still be supplied) would require a copy of Minecraft to be installed.
Does the new texture pack support mean that the minecraft game is now required to be installed for the screensaverr to work now? (I seem to recall something about you planning on doing this by making the screensaver read from the minecraft.jar so was just wondering if this is the case?)
This doesn't affect me I have bought the game, I'm just curious :smile.gif:

Nope. The screensaver still comes with terrain.png(well terrain.stf). But any future screensaver modes which require other Minecraft Images/etc won't work without Minecraft being installed. So in the future owning the game will effectively unlock extra screensaver modes.
It gets Minecraft files in the following order:
1. Texture Pack
2. Minecraft.jar
3. MCI_Data\Images\ folder
If it doesn't exist in one it then try's the next location.
Hey! Your screensaver is awesome and really suits my minecraft win7 theme. :happy.gif:
One question though. I'm using Misa' 64x64 texture pack, and all the selections for the rotating cube sides are messed up. ie. Half of the textures are stone and the others are off centre. The texture pack is loaded straight into minecraft, not through the minecraft texture pack menu, so the option for choosing a texture pack doesn't work.
What I was wondering is if there's a way that you could force the screensaver to think bigger, so to speak, auto adjusting to different sizes. eg. 32x32, 64x64.
If that's a little too difficult, all I really want is a way to set the screensaver to use the default minecraft textures and not the ones from the game file. (Perhaps put a button "Use Default Textures" to lead the screensaver to use the default image.)
This truly is a great thing you have created for us minecraft fanatics. :tongue.gif:
Currently it only supports 16x16 textures, im not sure if higher resolution terrain.png's will be supported in the future. The simplest way to make it not use the Minecraft.jar for the Terrain.png is to supply the screensaver with an invalid Minecraft directory(You can alternatively create your own texture pack that contains the original terrain.png). I will make it so in future versions you can force it to use the included terrain.png over Minecrafts.
I don't own a mac, so i can't support macs (Due to the whole not being able to test, nor have any clue how screensavers work on macs thing). Before anyone suggests it, i am not going to buy a mac.
I could make a native Linux version but i have no clue how screensavers work in linux(Or more precisely how to get it so you can select a screensaver and the system will then automatically run it after X Minutes of inactivity).

I know a few people who could edit this 4 the mac - could you send it to me, then ill send it to them, then when they're done ill send it back to you.
You have no clue what the programming language used is, so i seriously doubt you actually know anyone who could convert it so that it works on macs or you would have asked what language it was written in first. In any case i am not releasing the source code. If your friends had the skills to modify it to work on macs then they should have the skills to make there own screensaver from scratch. Minecraft style graphics are not hard to do.
Note: Converting the code so it works on a mac isn't hard. You just need to replace all the windows API calls with Mac's equivalent.
