I'm an artist who just started getting into Artist Alley's at conventions. In making new charms to sell at said conventions, I noticed an inordinate amount of the things I was making were related to Minecraft, and I kept having ideas as to what I should make next, how I could make lego-like creations out of the clay blocks I was painting, and other such ideas.
So, I thought, why not set a goal for myself? I decided that what I wanted to do was to try and create every item, mob, block, ore, tool and anything else related to Minecraft, and bring it into the real world, all in proportion to each other. Not just flimsy papercraft, either (although I do admire the the precision and skill which is required to create papercraft).
So, without further ado, here is what I have made so far:
Various Endermen! Including Portal and Mario crossovers
A bunch of humanoid figures! Notch's avatar is the bearded one. The creeper in a suit is just... well. A creeper in a suit. Duh.
Got a little creative with one of the creepers and gave him a TNT heart.
All the different blocks I've painted so far. The crafting bench is my favorite!
Diamond earrings. Classy
TNT buddies!
The Zombie Pigman Equation.
I actually made a chest out of clay that opened and everything! ... Unfortunately I didn't make it very well, and it's falling apart. But I ordered some much more sturdy wooden boxes and I plan on giving them a clay "lock"/button and painting them in the Minecraft style.
The materials I use are polymer clay (like the title says, of course), specifically Original Sculpey which I bake at 215 degrees Fahrenheit for about 25 minutes. I then paint the charms with acrylic paint and give them a coat of polyurethane gloss to keep the paint from chipping off.
And this is my current to do list:
- Remake Enderman so they can stand on their own
- Remake pick & sword so they're proportional to the mob and player charms
- Paint the wooden chests I have
- Make all the other stuff (of course)
Also, if anyone is interested, I have all of these things listed here on my etsy store.
I probably won't be working on Minecraft charms for a while because of finals and because I have to design and order a bunch of buttons by the end of the month if I want them to arrive before my next convention appearance. I thought I'd post this stuff anyway cause I like showing off And whenever I do start making Minecraft clay stuff again I'll be sure to post it in this thread!
If anyone wants to suggest what they'd most like to see next, I'll add it to a little queue and work on those things first when I get the time!
