The Far Lands. Very few in Minecraftia have ever gone far enough to see them. Those who have gone there have wasted years of their lives, only to eventually die and return to the spawn point. Their home villages would listen in awe as they told stories of how the Far Lands were so different from the normal Earth. They recalled that the landscape was made of cliffs and radically nonsensical forms, layers stacked on top of each other with floating lakes and islands and monsters everywhere. They remembered a feeling of dizziness, of nausea, of being unable to look straight at anything for very long before it got all deformed and weird. But most of all, they remember the strange figures moving in the shadows, the monsters worse than any they had met before, the ones with the piercing glowing eyes that gave them more vivid nightmares than any creeper encounter.
The Endermen. That was the name that the citizens adopted for the shadowy monsters, because they were men from the ends of the world. But they were still simply the stuff of legends, too far away to truly scare the vast majority of people. A dark fantasy that was only the reality of those who had traveled to the Far Lands, and even then maybe just a hallucination caused by the insanity of the long travel to the ends of the Earth.
But then they appeared.
It started with occasional, small sightings, dismissed as the work of paranoia. But eventually Endermen were nearly everywhere, very much real.
They would wander in the wilderness in the cold of the night. They stayed in the shadows until they noticed you.
The second you looked at them, their piercing bright eyes would immediately snap to you. They would not attack, but simply stare at you for as long as you stared at them. But the second you tried to run, they would attack you, ripping you apart and killing you very quickly. It was discovered that the monsters could be fought, but they were so utterly terrifying, their encounters so unprepared for that looking into their eyes would mean almost certain death.
No matter how fast you ran, they would get you. They melded with the darkness and used it to disappear and reappear right in front of you.
The Endermen were considered a threat, but the truth was still not yet fully understood. Encounters, while more common, were still rare enough for them to not be taken too seriously.
Then it was noticed what their true purpose was.
A brave soul walked up to the Endermen one fateful night, being careful not to provoke them or look directly at them.
He noticed for the first time that the Endermen were shaping the Earth - moving blocks very much like a human, and placing them in patterns.
It was then that he understood.
Creatures from the Far Lands.
Reshaping the Earth.
The Far Lands are not a place. They are a plague.
And we're next.

Came up with this on a whim, hope you enjoyed it! :3
No, I don't plan on doing anything with it. Just a little creepy backstory I came up with.
I'll admit that I got the idea from someone who posted a creepypasta about Endermen being the warped remains of people who visited the Far Lands. I thought, maybe the Endermen are something different, not corrupting people but the land...
