we just hit the 40 hour marker for breaking and replacing blocks with rubble,
i cant even begin to describe the pain my wrist is in >.<
the good news is we should be done with all the rubble in another 24-48 hours, 3 sectors left and we did half of a few
il keep everyone updated, alpha is around the corner!

today i will build the entire final fantasy VII map using these 2 pictures as a reference, i will use world painter for this and should only take me a few hours at most, we will then move midgar to proper location with worldedit
i had todo some math...fun!
chunks are 16 blocks wide, 16 blocks long, and 256 blocks deep, which is 65,536 blocks total.
midgar is aprox 1300x both ways so i figure 20 midgars should give me something good to start with
65,536x20 = 1,310,720 total
to generate this even with my i7-3550K & 16 gigs of ram this will take aprox 2 hours just to gen the flat land before i can even start building the map x.x

well after waiting 2 hours for it to generate the flat map it crashed at 99%
i tried doing this through worldpainter and it will take 2 hours to save it, so im going to just wait til i goto bed to start the process again...then i still have to paint it x.x

i continued the search and found a bat that will generate my world were starting with 65,000x 65,000x, it will take aprox 29 hours for it to generate this however i dont have to worry about it messing up
I was thinking when you mentioned how big that Midgar map is that it would crash when you tried to move it in WorldEdit. 29hrs is crazy tho! But it makes sense haha. Big project! I love the map idea! Hype! By the way, I mentioned this thread in my latest video

if i import midgar [1300x1300] to the map im generating it wont crash as long as i use the 64x version, i tested that a few months back, but my biggest fear is the map im generating isnt going to be big enough to scale it as big as i want
its going to be alot of fun creating it tho, ive been excited about it sense the idea was mentioned
i still have to wait another 15 hours for the map to gen

i will be finishing up the buildings above slums, from player housing to shops.

im waitn 6 hours for worldpainter to load the newly genned zone
last night i waited for worldpainter to load the map but it decided telling me i didnt have enough ram after it got to 99%, map size is 36gigs, i have about 16gigs of ram so it should of known that ahead of time, i had a feeling it was going to error
so i ended up setting up & testing permissions as well as modifying the train station
il be finishing up that today and prob move to buildings
i will upgrade my ram asap so i can paint in the map but its going to be a month or 2

i changed the blocks up in the train station, i think its the look i was aiming for
credit to MrShorteefor the textures, i did photoshop a few of them
I love your mod already and I haven't even played it! Keep up your hard work because I know this mod will be great one day. This makes the other mods I've seen look plain. Good luck with the mod and server! I can't wait to try it out!

yes and no,
most were only avail in 64x64 i did resize everything to 32x32 for best results
wakky has done alot of texture mapping for most of the 3d objects, they are taken from many sources but the textures dont always display right. he then creates a color map to track what displays where. i had a picture but i cant locate it, im sure he might comment with one
most of the block textures are from various places, i felt like like midgar needed some of these blocks to look more like midgar, ive mentioned some of the names of the artists in our credits, im still putting together the rest
some of the blocks in this picture below i did Photoshop but nothing significant, just color changes to match the other blocks, the rust on the vents, the dirt/grime on the floor, the edges on some of these displayed blocks were extremely dark.
some of the blocks wakky has shown still need to be modified a bit to match better its something i do as i go along
i took photoshop class's in high school. but ive been doing Photoshop 2-3 years before i ever took a class
its been while sense ive done a status update, first id like to say thanks killerx20 for the 1.7 map, this reset ALL of our progress however this gives me a chance to redo some of the things i wasnt happy with.
while we waited on the map we did some other things...alot of other things...about 3000 things total =]
we do not own ANY of the textures. you can find the credits in the 1st post in this thread next time i do an update
