Hello, and thank you in advance! I know how knowledgeable and helpful folks are and I appreciate your time and effort.
As per the topic of this thread I am trying to start a server on a Mac computer, a rather old one at that.
However, no matter what I try it doesn't seem to work. I've scoured the internet to find an answer and I only found here-say and quite a few different handful of suggests; all of which have failed me. A week later into my quest I've fallen upon the dismayed idea that a this particular computer cannot host a minecraft server. But I don't believe it! I believe that there are many people who are much more knowledgeable and crafty than myself out here in the great world wide web.
So, let me stop jabbering and I'll get to the facts...
Specifications of machine:
Apple Mac OS x 10.5.8
Dual 1.8 GHz PowerPC G5
1GB DDR SDRAM
Java Preferences:
J2SE 5.0
J2SE 1.4.2
I've downloaded both the Mac server and the Linux server.
The Mac server doesn't work at all.
The Linux server starts up and then the syntax gives me these 3 lines...
"Last login: Thu Dec 20 14:34:50 on console
apple-macs-power-mac-g5:~ applemac$ /Users/applemac/Desktop/minecraft_server/start.command ; exit;
/Users/applemac/Desktop/minecraft_server/start.command: line 1: {rtf1ansiansicpg1252cocoartf949: command not found
/Users/applemac/Desktop/minecraft_server/start.command: line 2: syntax error near unexpected token `}'
/Users/applemac/Desktop/minecraft_server/start.command: line 2: `{\fonttbl\f0\fmodern\fcharset0 Courier;}'
logout
[Process completed]"
Please, only respond to this thread unless you have an answer. I ask this just for the sake of others trying to do exactly what I am: please make it easy for this answer to be found.
