What is Cubic Worlds?
Founded in May 2011, Cubic Worlds is a not-for-profit survival Minecraft server that anyone can log in to and explore as a Guest. Our aim is to create a safe and secure place for players of all ages and skill levels to enjoy building epic creations with others. We value your time and effort and seek to reward you by providing a community that is amongst the friendliest in the Minecraftverse.
We don't have people who do dedicated coding for us to keep us ahead of the Bukkit update curve and we don't have hundreds of slots, so compared to some server we live in the "slow lane" sometimes - but we've still managed to get by and have a fun time for nearly three years!
What makes us so great?
There are several parts to our philosophy:
Improved survival gameplay: We try to keep close to the traditional spirit of Minecraft survival whilst also taking advantage of plugins that provide security and additional gameplay options. Our features include lockable containers, an economy, chest shops, homes, and full block logging on all our worlds.
Impartial and not for profit: While voluntary donations are welcome and sincerely appreciated, Cubic Worlds does not exist to make money. We do not sell in-game powers, privilege or influence in exchange for donations.
Equality: New Members have almost exactly the same building powers as a long-standing Moderator; the only perks earned through promotion are the ability to write coloured signs and the permission to place TNT, which we restrict Members from doing as an anti-grief measure. Even then, you are still free to ask other players to help you do either of those things!
Accountability: Our Staffers are not tyrannical beings that must be feared, and in fact they welcome constructive feedback on their actions to improve both themselves and the server as a whole. Just as players are expected to follow the server rules, so must staff members abide by a strict code of conduct to ensure they do not abuse their position of trust.
Fun events hosted by real people: As well as hosting events including mainstream ideas like Spleef, PvP Tournaments, and viciously evil Parkour Gauntlets, we also run completely custom events such as treasure hunts, Leaf Spleef, The Many-Hued Path, The DROP, and the Emerald Jump. There's a chance to win fame and fortune on most weekends!
Not just a Minecraft server: Though of course we enjoy building stuff with cubes, we also have a Steam group and occasionally run non-Minecraft events in games such as Team Fortress 2, Realm of the Mad God and others. A selection of our players will also be having fun in Landmark.
None of these things are hype we've included to make ourselves sound awesome - they're things that have worked, and are working right now, since the day the server was founded.
What do you mean by "family-friendly"?
The magic of Minecraft is that it has universal appeal - children can play and get as much enjoyment from it as adults can. At the time Cubic Worlds was started, there was a lack of servers that placed an emphasis on this. While the choice has improved somewhat since then, we still believe that we should be your first choice if you're looking for a server with a safe and welcoming atmosphere for players of all ages.
We consider ourselves family-friendly because:
Swearing is not allowed in chat, and we have a specific language policy to explain exactly what our definition of swearing is.
Builds that are classed as inappropriate or immature are moderated.
We do not discriminate against players based on age or skill level. If you can log in to Cubic Worlds and agree to understand and follow our modest rules then we will do our best to make you feel welcome.
Our staff are online regularly, if not in-game then inside our IRC chat channel, to ensure the rules are followed. All our players are happy to answer any questions you may have.

There's much more to Cubic Worlds - it's hard to summarise everything about our server in just this one post. If you would like to learn more about us, our history, notable builds and many other interesting things, you are encouraged to browse our wiki or check our forum. Once registered as a Member on the server, you can also request a wiki account at any time.

About the founder
The server founder, Operator, and current Chief of Staff is Zolyx. That's me!
I've been involved with various Minecraft-related things since seeing the first mention of the game on the Indiegames Blog. After running a couple of servers throughout that time, I'm delighted with the community that has developed around Cubic Worlds and hope to support it for a long time to come. Thanks for reading and I look forward to seeing you in-game soon!
